About me

I am a humanistic therapist, qualified with a degree in integrative counselling. The majority of my clients work with me online using video calls such as Zoom etc. My way of working is to encourage my clients to be open and honest from the start, and this takes courage actually but in my experience, pays dividends, as our relationship develops you will feel safe and supported in a way that allows you to discuss anything and everything, without being judged.

You are the  focus of my work, and whatever you bring to the session is what we work on, together, and this is not CBT but Person centred therapy, as you are an individual, and my aim is to learn about you and your process, as this method has been very successful with my clients.

How many of us block out feelings? Often subconsciously, but we may be blocking out feelings using; food, exercise, sex, gambling, alcohol or drugs.

This behaviour then becomes a habit. Of course some behaviours are healthy, such as exercise, but when does this move from a healthy pastime to an obsession?

Life should be enjoyed not endured and a healthy balance in all things has a greater effect on our mental and physical health.

Talking therapy will give you the safe space to rewind and track where behaviours changed to habits and may have progressed to obsessions, and more importantly, why.

What are the feelings that you feel the need to block out?

We often self-medicate from a young age using our habits/addictive behaviours as painkillers, but what is this pain? Where has it come from?

Exploring all these possibilities with my support may bring some balance back to your life. As we build trust in this therapeutic relationship, peace of mind will replace unhealthy behaviours and thought patterns.

Feel free to get in touch and use the offer of a free initial consultation to ensure that we are a good match. You can then make your own decision about going ahead with my services and working collaboratively on any issues you may have

Training, qualifications & experience

BA in integrative counselling and experience working with PTSD, sexual violence, abuse, addiction, and childhood trauma, plus anxiety and depression, Dissociation and Shame are some of the areas I have experience in and enjoy working with clients around these areas to help them progress.

Shame covers many issues and we may not be aware of the shame or where it comes from, and it be masked by our reactions in the moment, as we grow up feeling shame but not knowing how to deal with it. but have a general feeling or core belief that 'I am not good enough' .

A healthy relationship with a therapist will help to recognise shame and to understand where it originates, so that we can become aware of it, then build resilience around it , so that we have a healthier process going forward.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I am happy to work face to face in the Scarborough area, but many of my clients prefer the convenience of remote working, and this way means that I can work with clients all over Europe, which gives me a very diverse clientele, as I meet people from all walks of life.

Confidentiality  is key of course, and my sessions with you stay between us, which is part of the BACP code of practise, and helps to build the trust between you and I, which is vital when building the therapeutic relationship needed to bring about change.
