About me

Do you think you might be drinking too much? Have family and friends commented on your behaviour when you drink? Maybe the morning after the night before is getting a bit painful. Or for a while you might be drinking in moderation or not drinking at all and then all hell breaks loose and a mighty binge ensues.

I can help you make a decision about your relationship with alcohol, providing a non judgmental and open approach so that you can feel safe and unashamed. Together, we can explore how alcohol has lead to where you are now and the path you might take in the future.

I started drinking in earnest in my late twenties. It gave me confidence and a freedom from self conscious fear of social situations. I used plenty of other substances too, but it was primarily alcohol that led to behaviour I later felt ashamed of when I sobered up. It took me a long time to finally ask for help as I felt I should be able to control my drinking on my own. Eventually, I got over my shame and sought therapy to address my problems. I stopped drinking and taking drugs in 1995.

In my case abstinence was necessary, I couldn't do moderation. You might be able to. I don't insist on abstinence with my clients.

I believe in treating the whole person, addressing not only the addiction itself but also the underlying emotional, psychological and social factors that are contributing to it. Shame, anger and fear, difficulties in being assertive, relationships, both intimate and social. It's no surprise that we look for some relief from these challenges in life by resorting to drink. We need to learn how to manage them in order to have some peace of mind.

Practical tools, coping strategies and relapse prevention techniques will support you in navigating life’s challenges without turning to addiction.

Family Support: Addiction affects not only the individual but also their loved ones. I offer family counselling to heal relationships and create a strong support system for lasting recovery.

Confidentiality: Your privacy is of utmost importance to me. I adhere to strict confidentiality standards, ensuring that your personal information and sessions remain private and secure.

Embarking on the path to recovery takes courage and I commend you for considering counselling. You don’t have to face addiction alone. With the support of counselling you can overcome your addiction and create a brighter, healthier future.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
