About me

Hi I'm Richard & welcome to my page! I am a fully qualified CPCAB Person Centred Therapist with a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling & a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP).

I have years of experience of dealing with anxiety & depression & helping clients to find their way through this difficult & sometimes very painful time to help you discover a new understanding & way of living.

Having previously worked at Priory Hospital North London as an Addiction Therapist I have experienced the privilege of helping clients to recover & learn new ways to live by helping them to find new tools for their toolbox. I currently work at the Nightingale Hospital in Marylebone, as a sessional addiction therapist.

I also work in private practice in Bromley BR1 & offer face to face appointments in a comfortable and safe counselling room.  In addition I also offer online counselling for people who prefer this style of counselling at times to suit you.

Initial consultations are by phone & are free of charge with no further obligation. This allows us both to explore your individual needs & to see if we will work well together. Please feel free to contact me either by phone or email & I will come back to you as soon as possible.

I work with you as an individual drawing on previous experiences & teachings & I work in an authentic down to earth way that is both interactive & collaborative.

Counselling can be daunting so I work with you at your pace, offering you a space that is non-judgemental, respectful and confidential.  Everyone is different, but having a space to talk and actually be heard can be extremely powerful and healing; leading to a greater understanding of yourself & a shift in your emotions & perceptions.

My aim is to walk alongside you in your journey & assist you in addressing those aspects of your life which are causing you distress, anxiety, sadness or difficulty.

I have experience with dealing with many different common mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, OCD, panic attacks, phobia's, stress, anger issues, addiction, alcoholism, low self esteem, family issues & trauma

Duration and reviews

Each client's needs are individual, therefore I tailor therapy to a duration that suits these requirements.  During our sessions we actively review our work together at regular intervals to ensure that you are getting what you need from the process.

Confidentiality and ethics

All our work together is confidential, however, there are some limits to this (ethical & legal) which will be discussed in detail at our first meeting.
I hold professional indemnity insurance & have an enhanced DBS which is on the update service online.

I undertake additional training & professional development in order to both widen my knowledge & to continue to develop my counselling skills.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
