About me

"Rick's caring and insightful support each week helped me to cope with a very stressful and anxious period over several months and identify underlying patterns that were holding me back"

Hello and welcome...

In my practice, I have had the privilege of working with clients who have experienced the profound and enduring effects of psychological wounding. Many of them bring anxiety, are navigating challenging family and relationship dynamics, or they may be experiencing intimacy related issues or battling eating disorders. These issues have been deeply rooted in their ways of coping in response to past difficulties.

I have further assisted clients who have wanted to work on specific life challenges & changes, issues around self confidence & their desire for self improvement. With experience in these areas, I'm committed to providing you with the support you need to overcome these challenges and lead a more fulfilling life.

Anxiety can feel overwhelming, but through our work together, we'll explore the underlying causes and develop coping strategies to manage your symptoms effectively. Whether it's generalised anxiety, social anxiety, or panic attacks, I'm here to help you regain a sense of calm and control.

Navigating relationships can be complex and I'm here to offer guidance and support as you work through challenges with family dynamics, intimate relationships, or sexual issues, including porn addiction. Together, we'll explore patterns, communication styles and boundaries to foster healthier connections and deeper intimacy.

If you're struggling with disordered eating habits or body image concerns, know that you're not alone. I offer a compassionate and non-judgemental space to explore the underlying emotions driving these behaviours, empowering you to develop a healthier relationship with food and your body.

Healing from the psychological wounding of historical abuse and trauma is a journey and I'm here to walk alongside you every step of the way. Through gentle exploration and processing, we'll work to integrate past experiences, heal emotional wounds and cultivate resilience and self-compassion.

"Trauma is not what happens to you; it is what happens inside you as a result of what happens to you" - Gabor Mate

My approach is collaborative, empathetic and psychologically-informed, tailored to meet your unique needs and goals. Together, we'll create a safe and supportive environment where you can explore your thoughts and feelings openly and without judgement.

I also like to work with what is called the 'four givens of existence', these are; mortality, freedom & responsibility, existential isolation & the meaning / meaninglessness of life. I believe these are pivotal in assisting you to confront what is interfering & mentally 'blocking' you from moving forward with your life.

If you're ready to embark on a journey of healing and self-discovery, I invite you to take the first step and schedule an initial appointment with me where this will be a really good time for us to find out who we are, see what our work is going to be about and to see how we come to feel about working together.

Remember, you deserve to live a life free from anxiety, relational strife and the emotional residue from past wounding. Let's work together to unlock your inner strength and resilience and create a future filled with hope and possibility.

I look forward to meeting with you!

Rick Cox, Reg, MBACP

Member organisations

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
