About me

I'm a BABCP accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, and an EMDR UK registered EMDR Therapist. I can help with a wide range of issues, such as low mood, general anxiety, social anxiety, health anxiety, OCD and phobias. I have a particular interest in trauma and complex trauma, and can also work with general stress, loss and other issues such as emotional regulation.

I am fully qualified to work with individuals and groups.

As an integrative CBT psychotherapist, when we work together, I will draw on a range of approaches to help you achieve your goals. No two clients are the same, and no two issues are the same so by using an integrative approach, I can ensure that the therapeutic pathway we follow is tailored to your specific experiences, needs and goals.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how CBT psychotherapy, clinical supervision or CBT training works. I also offer a free 10 minute initial telephone conversation. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of having psychotherapy, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.

You can call me on 07890 096981 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BABCP
British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)

The BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the practice, theory or development of CBT. BABCP also provides accreditation for CBT therapists. BABCP accredited members adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and are willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

COSCA
College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSCA)

COSCA is the professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in Scotland, and seeks to advance all forms of counselling and psychotherapy and the use of counselling skills by promoting best practice and through the delivery of a range of sustainable services. COSCA Counsellor Accreditation is a pathway to entry onto the UKRC.

It is a requirement of all individual and organisational members of COSCA to abide by its Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice and be accountable to the Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Further information

I  run a small, yet busy private practice where I speak to clients with a variety of issues by telephone or on my secure online psychology platform. I pride myself in having a smaller case load which allows me to work with on a more personal level, and provide my clients with a quality service. This affords me the space to be able to also offer small groups, workshops and retreats.

I am a highly experienced therapist working with individuals, private health insurers, employment assistance programmes, rehabilitation referral agencies and medico-legal services. I have worked with government organisations and emergency services and have worked on several high profile incidents.

Hopefully I hit the sweet spot between  balancing working within the medical model with a client centred holistic approach. This is based on my belief that you are more than your mental health issue. Mental health is not a static state of being but an outward expression of how we feel inside. The body and mind have the ability to heal themselves in the right environment. Our minds and bodies will always strive to regain natural balance. An holistic approach to mental health is about helping or minds and bodies re establish a sense of balance and learn to self regulate. No two people are the same, even if they have the same mental health condition.

Getting in touch

Please feel free to give me a call to discuss how I can meet your needs. If I am busy I will aim to call you back within 24 hours. From there I will take your basic contact details and you can tell me briefly why you have called. If we agree that we can work together I will send you a contract to sign which is standard practice, and which will outline how we will proceed. If you are happy with this you can send me back the contract via email and we can begin with your assessment session.  I usually suggest we start with an assessment and 6 sessions and review at the end to see if more are required.

All payments can be done via internet transfer in advance to secure your appointment slot. I want to make accessing therapy as flexible and as easy as I can for you. If for any reason I can't work with you I will sign post you on to an organisation or back to your GP as some issues are not best suited to brief therapy and require longer term specialist work.

If you are at low risk of harm to yourself (thoughts of suicide or self harm) or to someone else please seek additional support. I can work with you if you are having thoughts of suicide or superficially self harming, but not if you have a plan or intent to complete suicide. I do not offer crisis support and all sessions are pre booked. If you are at high risk of harm to yourself (have thoughts, and a plan/means) please contact your GP or 111 if out of hours, or The Samaritans on 08457 909090. Alternatively if you are at immediate high risk (have thoughts, a plan, means and intent) please present at A&E or call 999 urgently.
