BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist

About me

I am a BABCP Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, a clinical supervisor,  and a supervisor of supervisors. I am also a family systemic practitioner trained to intermediate level, and a professional hypnotherapist. I am fully qualified to work with individuals, couples, families and groups.

I now run a busy private practice where I speak to clients with a variety of issues by telephone or Teams platforms and also offer clinical supervision to other therapists.

I enjoy training and have experience in facilitating monthly Clinical CPD sessions and group supervision.

I previously worked in the Employee Assistance Provider sector for six years and was a Clinical Lead for the Scottish Government's Inquiry into Childhood Abuse. I was also the Clinical Lead for Police Scotland's trauma support service. I carried out mental health and trauma triage assessments, and offered telephone counselling using CBT,CCBT and SFBT approaches. I also did vicarious trauma/psychological wellbeing and  resilience assessments, critical incident trauma debriefing (CISD) and consultative support work, and have worked on several high profile incidents.

More recently I worked part time as a CBT Therapist and Clinical Team Leader, and was responsible for managing and reviewing risk cases ranging from low, to high including immediate risk , self harm, suicide, domestic violence and child protection issues.

I have also worked for the NHS using their online platform delivering CBT via instant messaging.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)

The BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK.

Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the practice, theory or development of CBT. BABCP also provides accreditation for CBT therapists.

BABCP accredited members adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and are willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSCA)

COSCA is the professional body for counselling and psychotherapy in Scotland, and seeks to advance all forms of counselling and psychotherapy and the use of counselling skills by promoting best practice and through the delivery of a range of sustainable services. COSCA Counsellor Accreditation is a pathway to entry onto the UKRC.

It is a requirement of all individual and organisational members of COSCA to abide by its Statement of Ethics and Code of Practice and be accountable to the Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Further information

Please feel free to give me a call to discuss how I can meet your needs. If I am busy I will aim to call you back within 24 hours. From there I will take your basic contact details and you can tell me briefly why you have called. If we agree that we can work together I will send you a contract to sign which is standard practice, and which will outline how we will proceed. If you are happy with this you can send me back the contract via email and we can begin with your assessment session.  I usually suggest we start with an assessment and 6 sessions and review at the end to see if more are required.

All payments can be done via internet transfer in advance to secure your appointment slot. I want to make accessing therapy as flexible and as easy as I can for you.If for any reason I can't work with you I will sign post you on to an organisation or back to your GP as some issues are not best suited to brief therapy and require longer term specialist work.

If you are at low risk of harm to yourself (thoughts of suicide or self harm) or to someone else please seek additional support. I can work with you if you are having thoughts of suicide or superficially self harming, but not if you have a plan or intent to complete suicide. I do not offer crisis support and all sessions are pre booked. If you are at high risk of harm to yourself (have thoughts, and a plan/means) please contact your GP or 111 if out of hours, or The Samaritans on 08457 909090. Alternatively if you are at immediate high risk (have thoughts, a plan, means and intent) please present at A&E or call 999 urgently.
