About me

Should my life be this way or is there something better?

I fear the arguments or silence in my relationships, the 'brick wall' between us

Working with an integral therapeutic counsellor, whose training involved a variety of modalities, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Person-Centred, Psychodynamic, Transactional Analysis, Transpersonal, Emotionally Focused Therapy and Creative Work, we will explore your distress until you reach a place of contentment.

I aim to create feelings of safety in working with you, creating an atmosphere of warmth, acceptance, and non-judgmentalism.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

Having arranged our first session through telephone or e-mail contact I offer thirty minutes without charge online or face-to-face in a private room at Tollesbury Congregational Church, CM9 8QD, to see if we are happy working together. I can listen to what brings you to counselling and we can see if my way of working fits with your expectations.  Then I will send you or you and your partner by e-mail or in person documentation including a Therapy Agreement which includes information about free sessions and paid sessions (£45 for one-to-one counselling and £60 for couples counselling) and a Client Information form/forms on which you are asked to complete some details about yourself and another form for your partner, if you wish for couples counselling.  These are kept securely according to GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation).  We will then arrange times and dates for our sessions together.  If you wish to see any of my professional documents I can also make these available.

I  offer FREE face-to-face sessions at Tollesbury Congregational Church, CM9 8QD, in a private room  on Monday mornings from 09.00-10.00, or 10.00- 11.00 which are open to all with donations requested. Parking is available in the square opposite or in nearby streets.

I have regular supervision and abide by the BACP code of ethics.  I also have an enhanced DBS (Data Baring Service) certificate.

Further information

After retiring from full-time secondary teaching and moving into a counselling role, I combined both my skills working with children with SEMH (Special, Emotional and Mental Health issues).

I also worked in general counselling, having trained at Anglia Ruskin University, Chelmsford. My course covered a wide range of therapeutic approaches.

My further development involved training and working at a centre for domestic abuse. I also trained to work with couples using emotionally focused therapy. I am a member of the BEFT (British Emotionally Focused Therapy) and ICEEFT (International Centre for Excellence in Emotionally Focused Therapy)

I specialise in working with addictive behaviours, anxiety issues, relationship issues, couples therapy, and domestic abuse.

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

I usually work in an upstairs room. The building is wheelchair accessible bu not the upstairs room. Arrangements can be made for wheelchair users to access a downstairs room.
