About me
Dr André (Petrus) Swanepoel – Systemic Family Psychotherapist, Gestalt Therapist and Play Therapist. (Private Practice based in Pinner, Middlesex and Zoom sessions).
About me
You’ve done the thinking.
You understand your patterns.
And yet—nothing really changes.
You find yourself in the same loops: in relationships, in your reactions, in your thinking.
I work with adults, couples, and young people who feel stuck in patterns that don’t shift.
My approach is active, relational, and focused on real change—not just talking.
I am a Systemic Psychotherapist as well as a Gestalt and Play Therapist, working with individuals, children, adolescents, couples, and families. For over 20 years, I have been fascinated by the ways our relationships shape our lives — with family, partners, children, and even ourselves. From our earliest interactions, patterns are formed that influence how we think, feel, and connect throughout life.
Life can bring many challenges — trauma, loss, anxiety, conflict, or difficult transitions. These experiences often leave lasting marks, shaping the way we relate to ourselves and others. Over time, coping strategies that once helped can begin to feel restrictive, leaving us frustrated, anxious, or disconnected. In my work, I aim to create a safe, compassionate space where you can explore these patterns, understand their impact, and discover ways of relating that feel more authentic, freeing, and empowering.
I see therapy as a partnership. Together, we can reflect on your experiences, nurture your inner resources, and develop strategies for growth that feel practical and meaningful. I draw on systemic, family, and Gestalt approaches, enriched by my background in social work and advanced training in Play Therapy. I work with curiosity, empathy, and thoughtful reflection, supporting clients in developing resilience, confidence, and a stronger sense of self.
I work with people of all ages across a wide range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief and bereavement, relationship difficulties, family conflict, parenting challenges, identity and self-esteem, ADHD, behavioural concerns, and life transitions. For children and adolescents, Play Therapy offers a unique way to express themselves, explore their feelings, and develop coping strategies in a safe and creative environment.

Supervisor: Enda Murphy, Consultant Systemic and Family Psychotherapist
Over the past 20 years, I have worked across the NHS and in the Local Authority, supporting children, young people, and families through some of life’s most difficult experiences. Along the way, I have carried out assessments for children who have experienced abuse, parenting and contact evaluations, and have seen first-hand how early experiences shape the ways we relate to ourselves and others.
I now focus on providing therapy and support for children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. I work with the challenges life can bring — trauma, grief, anxiety, depression, anger, relationship difficulties, family conflict, and issues around identity or separation. My approach is collaborative, curious, and compassionate, helping each person or family to explore their experiences, find understanding, and discover new ways of relating that feel authentic and empowering.
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
