About me
I strive to provide a therapeutic space that allows my clients feelings to be heard with empathy, openness and honesty at the core of this experience. I am committed to helping my clients face the challenges of life and to reflect on and embrace the freedom of choice human kind has. I am mindful of understanding a client's position in the world and their unique identity in relating to themselves and to others. I believe in working with you to reflect on your current ways of being, enabling you to identify and develop further on your internal resources.
I am also an adoption informed counsellor, holding a certificate in Adoption Support Counselling, allowing me to work with adults whose lives have been touched by adoption. I have a keen interest in understanding the lived experience of each person within the adoption triad, with a specific interest in the lived experience of adoptees and birth parents that are thinking about starting their reunion journey or have been through an adoption reunion.
When making the decision to come to counselling, a question you are likely to ask is how many sessions will I need? There is no one size fits all answer to this question, which is why I work using both a time-limited and open-ended approach.
In using a short-term approach, we will arrange a set number of sessions up front (usually between 10 - 12 sessions) and monitor how we progress. The sessions that follow are dedicated to working through the personal challenges for which you have sought counselling. During the last session we will assess what the counselling experience has been like and discuss how you would like to proceed. Time limited counselling generally has a tighter focus and concentrates on issues that are current, in the "Here and Now". Some clients come back for short term work several times, depending on their personal circumstances.
There are times when clients know from the outset that they would like more time exploring their way of being. Additionally, some clients may move from time-limited to open-ended counselling as a result of discovering something they would like to explore in greater depth. In such cases, we will work collaboratively in the first session to assess and talk though the expectations of counselling and establish some outcomes you would like to achieve from your counselling experience. You will then have on-going sessions for as long as you think and feel they are needed.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
