About me

How therapy can help

Spending time with a therapist you can trust allows you to be open about your feelings and thoughts and build a valuable understanding of yourself and why you may think or feel the way you do. Whatever your needs may be, I am here to offer support.

Therapy is a process of self-discovery, growth and self-acceptance. In sessions with me, we can work together in building an understanding of yourself and develop self-compassion.  I can help you transform behaviours by learning to adopt new attitudes and reactions.

How I work

I am a pluralistic psychotherapist, meaning I work uniquely with traditional evidence-based psychological therapies in a relatable and compassionate way. I combine person-centred therapy, relational psychodynamic psychotherapy, grounding and mindfulness and some cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) techniques.

Training, qualifications & experience

Registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists).

I currently work part-time in NHS Talking Therapies supporting adults with mild, moderate and severe mental health difficulties.

For the past two years, I have also worked as a psychotherapist for adults and young people within a sexual abuse charity service offering short and long-term therapy to victims of sexual abuse and domestic violence. This means my work is trauma-informed and I utilise a variety of interventions e.g. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) techniques for distress tolerance.

Specialist experiences

  • Adults experiencing anxiety and low self-esteem
  • Depression and low mood
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Trauma (including sexual abuse and domestic violence)
  • Emotion regulation difficulties
  • Patients and carers living with chronic and long-term health conditions, such as cancer or neurological conditions
  • Young people aged 15-18 experiencing anxiety, attachment issues, bereavement and loss.

I am a Registered Member of the BACP and work strictly within the BACP Ethical Framework for Counselling Professions. This requirement includes attending regular supervision with an experienced professional and regularly attending continued professional development.

Counselling Psychologist in Training

I have also completed my final year of professional doctoral training as a Counselling Psychologist, eligible for HCPC accreditation. I am pending examination and registration. This means I have received training to doctoral level, and I am trained in a variety of psychological interventions. I utilise a range of approaches in my practice as I believe each person is unique. This means I can offer a therapeutic service and interventions specifically tailored to you and your needs.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

Initial phone call

I offer an initial 15-minute phone call or 20-minute Zoom call, free of charge, so we can consider how we may be able to work together. This can be helpful in feeling at ease talking to someone new and having a space to talk about what you would like to focus on with our therapy.

You may want to let me know any goals you have for therapy. We can ensure our availability matches and make sure we can find a date/time that suits you. You might have some questions that you would prefer to talk through over the phone before having a first session. There is no right or wrong, and there is absolutely no obligation to continue to the first session.

What to expect from our first session

The first session will be our assessment session. This session is about getting to know you, what has brought you to seek help, and how we might want to work together.  We can discuss goals/hopes for therapy and any preferences for achieving this. We can discuss how many sessions might be helpful moving forward, but the number of sessions is entirely up to you. There is no obligation to continue after our assessment, or at any point in the number of sessions. All I would ask is if you felt you did not want to continue, to just let me know.

If now feels like the right time to get in touch. I would be happy to hear from you.
