About me

You know that feeling of not feeling good enough? I know I do. In fact I believe that we all do from time to time. Do you wish for a more fulfilling relationship with your partner or yourself? Perhaps you would like to change some patterns of behaviour that have caused difficulties in past relationships and are recurring in your current relationship. Maybe you are just feeling stuck from trauma that has happened in your past and these worries are getting in the way of your future; that you would like to live more in the present.

If you are feeling anxious, depressed or confused about your feelings then you have come to the right place. The relationship that you have with your therapist is very important to the healing process. A good therapeutic relationship is built on mutual respect and trust.  It is a relationship where we join together to reach the goals you have. In each session we will look at the presenting issue(s) and try to untangle them from different angles. At the end of the session you may be presented with exercises, or "homework", to work on until we meet again.

As no two people are alike neither is therapy. I offer a service that is tailored to your needs. I enjoy working with couples and individuals and issues ranging anywhere from dealing with the aftermath of an affair, conflict resolution and children to self-discovery, bereavement and loss.

On a more personal note, I enjoy being outside and embracing all of the beautiful walks that Scotland has to offer. I enjoy travelling, especially to visit family in Canada - where I am from. And I also enjoy catching up for a chat with friends, old and new.  In general I want to embrace all that life has to offer and love what I get to do everyday with the people I get to do it with.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a degree in Psychology with Human Relations and worked predominantly in schools until 2014 when I decided to pursue a career in counselling. I have been practicing in Relationship Counselling for the best part of five years, having been rewarded a Diploma in Relationship Counselling in 2016. In 2017 I decided to further my practice by completing a Diploma in Sexual Therapy. I have, and continue to, work with Relationship Scotland on a part time basis. I am a registered member of BACP and COSRT.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

COSRT
College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT)

COSRT is the UK’s leading membership organisation for therapists specialising in sexual and relationship issues.

All members must abide by their Code of Ethics and the performance of accredited members is regularly monitored.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
