About me
Hi, I am an integrative therapist and from 2006 I have been working with adolescents/young people and adults of all ages and also working with couples since 2016. Finding the right therapist for you is vital. Being comfortable enough with your therapist to start to explore your issues or problems is paramount. You really need to feel comfortable or safe enough, to start to talk about experiences or feelings that you may not have ever spoken to anyone about. To that end, I am very down to earth, I always encourage my clients to be themselves with me and not feel that they have to restrict their language or behave in a certain way. In general life, I can be a bit sweary and being authentic in the therapy room is an absolute must for me, perhaps that's why my clients find me easy to talk to.
My private practice is located in a purpose built cabin at my home in Oulton Broad, Lowestoft, where I offer integrative counselling to adults and adolescents. My lower age limit is 14 now, although I have worked for many years with those as young as 11. I will consider 13 yr olds, but only under certain criteria. I have experience of working with a wide range of issues such as; Trauma (all sources) rape & abuse, self harm, addictions, depression, stress, relationship issues, panic attacks, phobias and many other debilitating issues. I have worked extensively with LGBTQ+ Neurodivergent client groups. I am a neurodiversity affirming therapist, and neurodiversity specialist. There is a regular local bus service which stops nearby and ample parking for clients who drive. As an integrative counsellor, I am able to utilise interventions from many different schools of counselling, to best meet the individual needs of each unique client. I do not believe that one style suits all. Whatever issues or problems you wish to overcome, you can be assured of a confidential, non-judgemental, specifically tailored counselling approach and a warm welcome. I always endeavour to hold a few appointments for anyone who may need subsidised rates, so don't be afraid to ask.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Further information
I offer several ways of working with my clients. Some will want brief or short term therapy, typically this could be 1-6 sessions. We may agree to review how things are going at set points, others may want longer term therapy. I always look for improvement or movement with my clients, and I don't usually have clients in regular sessions for years or even months on end, although that can be the case for some more complex cases. Some clients work on one issue at a time, and come back when they are ready to do the next piece of work. Others may want to look at everything in one go. I can accommodate what the client wants. The important thing is that the client is benefitting, improving, seeing change within themselves. The way I work, is to give each client the techniques and strategies they need to continue the work for themselves, long after the therapy has finished, which greatly reduces the cycle of having to come back into therapy after a few weeks or months. Many of my clients have had lots of therapy in the past, which was initially helpful, but then they started to decline and came back into therapy, usually because they were not taught how to maintain their progress. I aim to break the cycle of needing to come back into therapy.
