About me

Life is often complicated; the changes we face can be the most challenging times; testing our resolve and depleting our inner-strengths.

Sometimes, we struggle through alone until we find our way, but… then there are those ‘other times’, when we may need someone else to sit with our feelings, to hear our thoughts and to understand our concerns.

The idea of counselling may feel daunting, it’s not unusual to feel apprehensive; it can require courage to talk with a stranger, to accept that your needs are valid, and to prioritise self-care.

As your counsellor, my primary focus is you and how best I can support you to explore your situation.

I offer a safe and supportive space for you to share your thoughts and emotions, without any fear of being judged.

As an integrative counsellor, I combine different therapeutic ideas in order to guide my work, offering a bespoke counselling experience which adapts to your needs and circumstances.

I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns, including low self-esteem, motivational or confidence issues, stress, anxiety, and those coping with life changes.  Additionally, I have worked with many individuals living with disability or health conditions.

I offer the choice of face-to-face, telephone or video sessions.  All sessions are an hour in length and the total number of sessions is not limited.

I carry out a pre-therapy phone call in order to establish your counselling needs and answer any questions.  This lasts no more than 15 minutes, and there is no charge nor obligation to proceed with therapy.

During our first counselling session, I will seek to better understand your reasons for counselling, establish your goals for therapy and begin to hear your story.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over 15 years experience providing specialist pastoral support, having worked in the Further Education sector.  As a skilled mentor and coach, I trained in therapeutic counselling, and after leaving an organisational setting, I now provide counselling within my private practice.

As a qualified practitioner, I hold a BTEC Level 5 Diploma in Therapeutic counselling.

I have completed the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy’s Certificate of Proficiency, and continue to be a registered member of the BACP.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
