About me

Hello.  My name is Karen and thank you for taking the time to read my profile.

Maybe you are struggling with anxiety, depression, loss, low self-esteem, trauma or perhaps you are just feeling distressed and you don’t know why. It may be that you are struggling to cope with something that has happened in your life.

How Therapy can help

Repressing emotions can be harmful to your mental health. Avoiding our emotions can lead to anxiety, depression, stress and panic disorders.

I can help by supporting you to identify the root of your problem that you are trying to deal with. By working together we can look at to understand why you are feeling the way you do.

I can help guide you through times of difficulty towards a deeper understanding of yourself, your feelings, thoughts and behaviours as well as identifying ways of finding your own solutions to problems. I am constantly in awe of the transformation that people can make through counselling and I feel privileged to be able to be a part of it.

Whatever you bring to the session is what we will work with. The sessions are led by you, the client, and not me. We can explore your issues, feelings, beliefs, and behaviour so you can become more self-aware and when we become self aware we can feel more in control of ourselves and make different choices.

When we can understand and make sense of why we are thinking, behaving, and feeling the way we do can help us to learn to accept ourselves, feel more confident, make better, healthier choices and have a general overall more happier and peaceful outlook on life.

I firmly believe that by working collaboratively with my clients it helps them find a sense of hope and direction, as well as enhancing their own internal resilience.

Reaching for help is not easy, but I know from my experience that finding the right therapist leads to a life-changing experience and a more conscious existence.

Please get in touch if you have any questions about the process – no obligation, just make contact and ask anything you would like to. I look forward to hearing from you soon.

My Approach

I am an experienced integrative trauma informed counsellor which means that I am trained to work in a variety of ways to help you with your personal and emotional problems, and my intention is to build a relationship with you that is safe and comfortable enough to share your thoughts and feelings, without feeling judged or dismissed.

How I work:

All sessions are 50 minutes in length and will be once a week or fortnightly, ideally they will be held at the same time and day.

Sessions are either online, confidentially via end-to-end encrypted platforms, face to face or telephone.

Please text, call or email to enquire.

For therapy to be effective the relationship between counsellor and client is especially important. Which is why I offer a 15 minute telephone or video call to see if we are able to work together. You can let me know your reasons for seeking counselling and ask any questions you may have.

Training, qualifications & experience

I work at The Sadie Centre in Letchworth, Hertfordshire, as a therapeutic counsellor, as well as having my own private practice in Potton, Bedfordshire.

I am committed to personal and professional development and attend regular ongoing Continued Professional Development Training.  I endeavour to keep up to date with current developments in the field of therapy.

I have regular supervision with a professional, accredited supervisor who adheres to the BACP Code of Ethics in maintaining client confidentiality and promoting quality of the service provided.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
