About me

Hello, I'm Karen.

You may find yourself overthinking conversations, doubting yourself, struggling to set boundaries, or feeling responsible for other people's feelings and needs. Perhaps you often put others first, find relationships difficult, or feel anxious, overwhelmed, or disconnected from yourself without fully understanding why.

Many people I work with have spent years coping in this way. Over time, constantly putting others first, second-guessing yourself, or trying to keep everything together can become exhausting and leave you feeling disconnected from your own needs.

I offer a calm, supportive, and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly about what is happening for you. You do not need to have everything figured out before starting counselling.

Many clients initially feel that their childhood was 'fine', yet find themselves struggling with anxiety, self-doubt, people-pleasing, or relationship difficulties without fully understanding why.

Together, we can explore the patterns, experiences, and relationships that may have shaped the way you feel and respond today. As understanding deepens, many people begin to feel more emotionally grounded, more self-accepting, and better able to navigate relationships, emotions, and life's challenges.

My approach is collaborative, compassionate, and led by you.

I offer Counselling face to face, online or via telephone from my private counselling room, based in Potton Bedfordshire.

My Approach

I am a qualified Integrative Counsellor and hold a CPCAB Level 5 Diploma in Somatic Trauma Therapy.

I draw from person-centred, psychodynamic, and somatic approaches, tailoring therapy to your individual needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all model.

At the heart of my work is the belief that you are the expert in your own life. Therapy provides a space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, relationships, and experiences with curiosity and compassion rather than judgement.

Alongside talking therapy, I help clients understand how stress, anxiety, and difficult life experiences can affect both the mind and body. Many people find that developing greater awareness of their emotional and physical responses helps them feel more regulated, more connected to themselves, and better able to make sense of their experiences.

I have a particular interest in:

Anxiety and overthinking
People-pleasing and difficulty setting boundaries
Relationship difficulties and repeating patterns
Low self-esteem and self-worth
Emotional overwhelm and shutdown
Childhood experiences and their lasting impact
Trauma and complex PTSD
Bereavement, grief and loss

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
