About me

Hello, my name is Joanne and welcome to my profile.

Are you feeling anxious, sad, or overwhelmed? Are you feeling distressed by a particular difficulty? It is normal to feel daunted to even start looking for someone to help you, so taking that step takes courage.

As a qualified integrative counsellor (Minster Centre, London), with a background in nutrition and eating problems within the NHS, I will provide you with the space to explore your difficulties in a supportive, understanding and non-judgemental environment.  With this joint exploration, there often arises an understanding of the difficulties in a new light which brings relief. This understanding can help you learn new and beneficial ways of responding to life's challenges.

I have a special interest in the body and believe that our emotions and life stresses are experienced and held within.  As we become more of aware of these sensations and related emotions we can begin to understand the stories that lie underneath.

If you want to explore your feelings and emotions in a safe, non-judgemental environment, I am here with the expertise and compassion to support you on your journey.

Please use the contact form if you would like to discuss any of this further.

Training, qualifications & experience

My training is in integrative counselling (Minster Centre, London) which means I have studied a number of different psychological approaches and aim to draw on them to different degrees depending on the individual client. I have 4 years experience working face to face.

I am also an experienced NHS dietitian based in a central London hospital and have worked in the field of eating problems for over 25 years. In this time I have worked with adults of different ages, different sexualties and from diverse social, cultural and religious backgrounds.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
