About me

I am passionate about working in depth with people, a journey which is difficult, but from which real understanding and change can happen. I don't offer tips and tools, but rather work with you to get to the root of your difficulties, so change is lasting and pervasive.

Do you doubt yourself and your decisions? Do you find yourself people pleasing in relationships? Are you critical of yourself and more lenient of others? Do you avoid conflict at all costs? Do you struggle to put yourself first? Are you doing all the work in your relationships? Do you worry what others will think of you? Are you working too much?

This may cause you to feel anxiety on a day to day basis, struggling with sleep and motivation, feeling unfulfilled in relationships or unable to find a partner, burnt out and low in mood, distanced from the real 'you' and what you want in life - and this is what may have brought you here.

If so, I can help.

Every experience in life leaves its impact on us and can affect how we then move forward and react to life, other people and ourselves.  Counselling offers an opportunity to see your difficulties, experiences and relationships from a different perspective, understanding their influence on you. It can help you define yourself in a way that feels authentic to you, separate from others, deciding what you do and don’t want to carry from the past into your future. It can help you feel more confident to be you, so you feel calmer and more in control of your life.

I work alongside you, bringing my knowledge and experience as a mental health professional, along with empathy, compassion and curiosity. This enables me to support you in telling your own unique story so we can work through the difficulties together.

Taking the first step in calling a counsellor can be daunting and takes real courage. It is important you find a counsellor you feel you can work with, as that is the basis for developing a relationship of mutual trust and respect. These are essential for any change to occur.

Our first session would be an opportunity to get to know one another and see if we both feel we could work together. It would entail an assessment of your current situation and history. I will ask questions in order to understand as fully as possible, what has brought you to counselling.  You are in control of how much you share at each stage. It is also an opportunity for you to ask me questions in order for you to feel you are in the right place with the right person and to understand the journey you are starting with counselling.

If we agree to work together, we would set days and times for our sessions. These would most likely be weekly but this can be discussed. You remain in control of what is shared and the direction our work will take. You also remain in control of how long you continue in counselling (I offer short and long term counselling). I will ensure your sessions are individualised to meet your specific needs and we will agree regular reviews of the work to ensure we both feel it is going in the right direction.

Please call or text to take the next step.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a psychology graduate, trained Mental Health Nurse and qualified psychotherapist.  I have worked in mental health hospitals for both the NHS and private sector for over 15 years, and in educational settings for 8 years.

I have worked in Child and Adolescent Units (CAMHs), eating disorder units and mixed diagnosis adult wards. As such, I have a wealth of experience and knowledge in supporting people from a range of backgrounds, at different stages in their lives and whilst experiencing a range of mental and emotional difficulties. I also have experience in mental health training, having worked for Research In Practice, the Anna Freud Centre and also delivering training to pastoral workers in local school settings.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
