About me

I am a fully accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a fully accredited member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP) with 15 years of experience working therapeutically with children, adolescents and adults. I currently work with adults in both a short-term, time-limited manner as well as longer term, open-ended treatment.

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, low in mood, panicky, struggling with your self-worth or grappling with issues of identity, I provide a safe, supportive and confidential space to work through these issues. Sometimes the events and triggers are obvious, but other times we may not know why we feel the way we do. Whether a present issue or a long-standing difficulty, therapy can be a good starting point to explore the way forward.

I aim to be a relational, collaborative and flexible practitioner. Sometimes solutions will present themselves through changes to the way we think or how we act, but sometimes the process is less straightforward, taking time to explore, process and reflect on life and its challenges.

What happens after you have made contact with me?

Searching for a suitable therapist can be an overwhelming experience. It is vitally important you feel you have the right therapist to match your needs and one you feel you can develop a helpful and collaborative relationship with.

Free pre-counselling phone call:

I offer a free 20 minute phone consultation to explore what support you are looking for. This allows us to get a feel for whether working together will be of benefit to you.

In this first call, we will likely cover;

  • The current problems that have led you to seek therapy
  • What your expectations are and any goals/directions you might have for therapy
  • Whether you have had counselling or psychotherapy before. What was helpful and what wasn’t
  • Some basic information about your current circumstances and support network
  • Any questions you might have for me

Training, qualifications & experience

I started my training as an undergraduate in Psychology (BSc) before completing my MSc in Counselling Psychology at City University, studying Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic therapy and Person Centred Counselling.

I then completed my specialised postgraduate training in CBT, working within an IAPT service. I’ve worked in a range of settings including educational institutions, pupil referral units and primary care trusts and have experience working with diverse and complex presentations. For the last five years I have worked within a University of London counselling service offering short term CBT interventions.

I have significant experience working with a range of anxiety disorders such as social anxiety, specific phobia, panic disorder, health anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). I have worked extensively with depression, work-related stress (and burnout), relationship difficulties, familial issues, low self-esteem and trauma related to domestic abuse and sexual violence (both recent and historic).

Having worked within a learning disability team and throughout my work in schools and higher education I have supported many clients with difficulties associated with neurodivergence (such as ADHD, autism, dyspraxia and dyslexia), whether this is a recent diagnosis or something they’ve lived with (and adjusted to) for many years

I have additional training in mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), compassion-focused therapy (CFT) and schema therapy.

I qualified as an Integrative Supervisor from the Minster Centre in 2018 and have IAPT training in CBT Supervision.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BABCP
British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP)

The BABCP is the lead organisation for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in the UK. Membership is open to anyone with an interest in the practice, theory or development of CBT. BABCP also provides accreditation for CBT therapists. BABCP accredited members adhere to the Standards of Conduct, Performance and Ethics in the Practice of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies, and are willing to be scrutinised in this adherence as required.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
