About me
Welcome, both to those who reach out as concerned carers and those seeking support and help for themselves.
I am a qualified child/adolescent psychotherapist and an adult counsellor. I work both in person in York and online. I began my career as a special needs teacher and I have taught and managed in different schools and units with young people who have both physical and emotional special educational needs. My passion of working with these young people led me to train as a therapist. I realised that many of the young people I worked with were not having their emotional needs addressed and not feeling emotionally safe. They struggled to access school, the curriculum and forge/maintain their significant relationships. In short, they were not enjoying their life as much as they wanted and were not realising their potential.
Key to the work is the relationship between myself and the client. I work flexibly according to the developmental age of the client (from aged four onwards) and their preferences. So, with some clients, the focus will be predominantly talking and, with others, there will be a more creative approach with play and using the arts. I work with a variety of presentations, including anxiety, self-esteem, addiction, sexuality, and gender. I have experience both in education and as a therapist in working with neurodiversity.
Training, qualifications & experience
As an adult and child counsellor, I trained in trauma and have worked at the Survivors Trust with young people and adults. I am experienced in working with risk, including self-harm and suicide ideation. I have worked in refuges, with young people and adults who have experienced violence. I am qualitied in EMDR for over 14s. I am also trained in couple counselling.
Over the last decade, I have worked as a counsellor in many schools in Leeds, Bradford and the Bingley area, with children ranging from 4-18 years old. I recently worked as a student counsellor in a Russell Group university.
I am accredited and professionally a member of the BACP. I have enhanced DBS status. I am a qualified special needs teacher, with an MA in Psychology and the Education of Special Needs. I have a psychology degree and am an associate tutor with the Open University in counselling and psychology. I am a qualified child psychotherapist. As a counsellor, I was trained in the psychodynamic and person-centred approaches. I work in an integrative way with the whole person, considering their lived experience and context.
I am also a qualified adult and couples counsellor. I am EDMR trained.

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
