About me

Welcome! I’m Heather, a person-centred Counsellor working in Renfrewshire, central Scotland. Person-centred just means that the focus is very much on you – what’s going on for you, probing and exploring to figure out what’s going on ‘under the hood’. Sometimes this can mean combing through some older events and memories, sometimes it means focus on what is going on right now. Either way, we’ll go at your pace. Therapy isn’t always a completely comfortable process – it can feel unsettling at times – but the benefits can be transformative.

It can take huge amounts of courage to take that first step in finding a counsellor, and I appreciate the leap of faith needed to trust a stranger with your most personal thoughts. Please be reassured that I do everything I can to offer a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space to allow you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. For some people, they are facing specific challenges or navigating life transitions, for others they are simply seeking a deeper understanding of themselves. Whatever your motivation is, I will be on hand to support and guide you. The therapeutic relationship that we build together will be crucial in supporting your process of gaining insight and achieving your therapeutic objectives.

Person-centred counselling places trust in you as the expert in your own life, so please trust your instincts in picking the counsellor you think will be the best fit for you!

I offer both short and open-ended therapy, and at the moment I offer mostly online therapy but may be able to arrange a nearby location for face-to-face counselling if that is your preference.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
