About me

Welcome! I’m Heather, a person-centred Counsellor working in Renfrewshire, central Scotland. Person-centred just means that the focus is very much on you – what’s going on for you, probing and exploring to figure out what’s going on ‘under the hood’. Sometimes this can mean combing through some older events and memories, sometimes it means focusing on what is going on right now. Either way, we’ll go at your pace. Therapy can feel both exhilerating and challenging - and everything in between - but the benefits can be life-changing.

It can take huge amounts of courage to take that first step in finding a counsellor, and I appreciate the leap of faith needed to trust a stranger with your most personal thoughts. Please be reassured that I do everything I can to offer a safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental space to allow you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. You might be facing specific challenges or navigating life transitions, or you might simply be seeking a deeper understanding of yourself. Whatever has brought you here, I will be on hand to support and guide you.

Person-centred counselling places trust in you as the expert in your own life, so trust your instincts in picking the counsellor you think will be the best fit for you.

I can offer a number of sessions tailored to your own specific needs, whether short-term or longer-term, and our therapy can be either online or face-to-face (in Kilmacolm), or a mixture of both. Some people only need or want a few sessions, whilst other people still come to see every month or every few months, when they feel they need a check-in.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
