About me

Sometimes we can feel overwhelmed in life by current or past circumstances. We may feel anxious, depressed, or as though we are a bit lost and out of sorts.  Sometimes there may be things, past or present in our lives, that we simply feel we need to talk through and unpack.

We cannot change the past, nor can we always change our current circumstances, but we can change how we face the future.  Counselling can help you find ways to feel more equipped, to gain a different perspective with more clarity and more peace within yourself that enables you to move forward in life. I believe everyone has the capacity within themselves to bring about personal change in some way. My role as your counsellor will be to help you identify that change and to support you in this process.

I offer you a warm and compassionate environment in which to express your thoughts and feelings, with mutual trust as the basis of our therapeutic relationship.  Big or small – nothing is irrelevant. I will always seek to understand your own personal experience and will listen without judgment or the need to ‘fix’ you. Together we will explore the things that have brought you to counselling and all that emerges on your therapeutic journey.

As an integrative counsellor, I draw on a number of counselling approaches to suit your needs, rather than work to one single model. We are all unique and therefore, one size does not fit all. My approach is client-led; hence I tailor the counselling sessions to meet your specific needs in a manner that allows you to feel both comfortable and safe.

You don’t need to know in advance exactly what it is you want to say, for as we talk the direction of our conversation will become apparent.  My role is to help you explore the issues, thoughts, and feelings that you are experiencing as you progress on your journey forward.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

These examples are not an exhaustive list, so don't worry if the matter you want to bring to counselling has not been mentioned above.  We can still explore whatever it is you are seeking therapy for, and whether I am the right counsellor best suited to helping you.

Military Personnel and Families

Furthermore, having spent 12 years of my married life with my husband in the armed forces, I am able to relate to and empathise with many of the additional pressures that are faced by military personnel and their families.

Whether you are currently serving, have a loved one who is serving, or have an ex-military connection, I can offer you understanding as you unpack your experiences of life in or connected to the armed forces.
