About me

I am a fully qualified BACP Accredited counsellor who has over 15 years experience in counselling children and young people who are experiencing troubling emotions that may be impacting upon their mental and emotional health and well-being, issues including :

  • stress
  • anxiety
  • sadness/unhappiness
  • worried
  • depression/low mood
  • anger
  • bereavement/grief
  • lack of confidence
  • low self-esteem
  • relationship/friendship problems
  • family problems e.g divorce, separation, conflict

I provide a safe and confidential space in which the young person can safely and freely explore their feelings surrounding any issue they may have. By gently helping them to talk about what is on their mind, the young person is able to come to a better understanding of themselves and their emotions.

Some young people, especially younger children enjoy the creativity aspect and so I may involve the use of creative activities to help the young person explore their feelings, especially if they are a little nervous and reticent in talking.

For bereavement counselling there could be drawing, writing down feelings, working through and completing bereavement booklets, making memory boxes, as well as talking through feelings surrounding their loss.

I work with children and young people aged 11 to 21 and each session will be tailored to the individual needs and age of the child and young person.

Please feel free to contact me with any more questions that you may have about my service and how I can help you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have over 15 years’ experience counselling children and young people.

I worked as a College Counsellor for over 12 years, counselling students one to one for a wide range of issues, in a sixth form college.

Prior to this, I worked in 5 secondary schools with 10 to 13 year olds as a counsellor for Off the Record, a counselling service for children and young people.

I have also worked in primary schools counselling 6-11 year olds with varying issues including anxiety, low mood, bereavement, self-esteem and anger management.

My most recent post is at a secondary school, counselling 11 to 16 year olds.

I am an Accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and I am on the BACP Professional Register for Counsellors. I am DBS enhanced checked.

I qualified in 2007 as a Person Centered Counsellor, I then did a post qualifying Diploma in Counselling Children and Young People in 2008.

My experience from there has been counselling children and young people in educational settings, aswell as in private practice.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
