About me

Hello, I am a registered BACP counsellor. I am experienced in helping clients who are suffering with depression or feel depressed. I have helped many clients to improve their wellbeing and to feel better.

I know how difficult it is to cope with depression feeling like you can’t function effectively in your daily life. Feelings of intense sadness, worthlessness, and hopelessness.  Having low energy and a lack of motivation.  The way it seeps into our lives robing us of our enjoyment of the things that we previously liked doing. I know it may be hard to believe right now, but the way you are feeling can change, it is possible for you to feel better and well again.

You are not alone. I know the thought of seeking help and support can be daunting but depression is treatable and it is possible for you to recover and feel better. One way of treating depression is with counselling. Often there are underlying problems that cause our depression. The counselling approach I use can help you to develop an understanding of these problems in order to deal with them. It will allow you the opportunity to talk openly in a safe, confidential, and non-judgmental space so you can work through and explore any issues you may be experiencing. The aim is to help you explore and make sense of the feelings underlying your depression, learn how to express these feelings, and develop new ways to cope in order to improve your wellbeing. It will also help you gain an increased understanding and awareness of yourself, enable you to find your own way of coping and dealing with life’s challenges, and work towards feeling better.

My approach is person centred, this approach is non-directive, allowing you to set your own agenda, work at your own pace and direction during the counselling process. I work in a relational way which means I will listen to you without judgment, with empathy, and kindness and care.  It is important that my approach works for you, and this will be explored prior to counselling commencing. I offer face to face sessions in Southend-on-Sea and on-line sessions for those unable to travel to Southend.

If you would like to take the first step, I offer a free 20-minute telephone consultation to establish if my counselling approach will work for you and for you to see if you would like to work with me.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
