About me

“There must be more to life than this….”

Frustrated that life hasn’t delivered what you expected? Relationships unsatisfying, even difficult? Perhaps you are haunted by memories of the past, or anxiety about the future? Life just seems bleak and hopeless? Despite all your efforts, things aren’t coming together - something always seems to get in the way?

Why counselling?

Without a doubt, life throws up challenges. Sharing concerns with friends and family may be helpful, but there are times when you need to speak to someone outside your usual circle. You need a place of understanding, where empathy is assured, and confidentiality guaranteed.

Counselling provides just such a safe, non-judgemental space to gain insight into past events, cope with current challenges, and take steps towards a brighter future.

How can I help?

As a qualified Counsellor, I offer the opportunity for you to share your thoughts and feelings in a warm, relaxed environment. What’s my approach? Well, people say I quickly put them at ease, and provide a sense of calm. I’m good at helping people to unpick a tangle of thoughts and emotions and begin to focus on the underlying issues. As my clients explore their past, or examine their present, most find a way to begin to move towards their desired future.

Holistic Approach

As I work, I always respect your personal values and beliefs. I draw on a variety of therapeutic approaches including Person Centred Therapy, CBT, and Transactional Analysis - whatever will best help you to understand your thoughts and emotions, and help you move towards any desired changes in your life. I take a holistic view, and believe that our minds and emotions, our physical and spiritual health are closely connected. Each part needs to be acknowledged to enjoy true wellbeing. A practicing Christian, I am experienced in helping people from a variety of faith traditions (or none) to integrate their spirituality with their mental and emotional wellbeing.

What to expect from a counselling session

Sessions last for 50 minutes. In a session, you might wish to explore issues such as:

  • Stress and anxiety
  • Depression, sadness and low mood
  • Bereavement and loss
  • Relationship issues
  • Loneliness and isolation
  • Self-esteem and identity
  • Transitions – menopause, empty nest, retirement
  • Exploring new beginnings
  • Positive aging and second half of life

Where to go from here?

Please email using the above "email me" button, or phone or text me on 07551 975922 with a brief summary of your reasons for seeking counselling. We can then agree a convenient time for a free 20 minute phone session so that we can discuss your needs and goals. I will explain a little more about how I work, and if you feel I can help you, we can agree a date for your first face to face or online counselling session.

Training, qualifications & experience

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
