Vallie Beagle MA / Dip.Counselling/ IPT/ Accredited EMDR Therapist
36 High Street
Hello and welcome to my profile. Thank you for taking the time to read through the information provided for you below which I hope will help you choose a good therapist for yourself.
Why do people chose to see a therapist?
At times many of us experience painful feelings, suffer from often crippling anxiety and occasionally behave in ways that cause difficulties in our lives. I know from many years of experience that people bravely tend to soldier on hoping things will improve or as often suggested by well meaning friends and family, they should be able to 'pull themselves together'.
Reaching out is a brave thing to do and well done for getting this far. It would be my job to put you at ease and provide a calm, safe space for you to feel confident to talk about your difficulties.
You most probably have a good idea as to what kind of therapist you would like to have and I imagine it would be someone who is experienced and confident in their work, someone who listens to your problems, is supportive, believes in your ability to heal, cheers you on and celebrates success with you. Someone who has your best interest at heart, who can identify your strengths and help you achieve your goals for the future. I believe I am that therapist.
My work experience
You may wish to know that I have been a therapist for 20 years mainly working for the NHS, where I am still working as therapist, supervisor, group facilitator and trainer.
I like you to know that I am familiar with the latest cutting edge neurobiologically informed treatment approaches and I am exited about the way in which they offer a new way of understanding on how the mind works. These approaches work for a variety of troubling personal issues and can promote personal growth, reduce anxiety, increase confidence, deepen your idea of relating to yourself and others and can bring about profound changes sometimes in a short period of time.
I am a registered and accredited member of the UK Council & Psychotherapy (UKCP) and adhere to their ethical framework. I am a fully trained and accredited Eye Movement Desensitisation (EMDR) practitioner with EMDR Europe Association. I am also a fully accredited Practitioner with IPT UK and a facilitator and trainer for CBT groups for anxiety and depression.
My training as an IPT therapist enables me to work with couples as it specialises on the interpersonal relationships. My preferred way of working is to offer individual sessions and to both parties and then bring them together to address the issues in a safe and contained environment. if this approach appeals to you please contact me.
What kind of therapist am I?
My approach is gentle but effective and is geared towards strengthening the healthy, well functioning core part of you. As we know, at times we can behave in ways that seem irrational and say or do things we later regret. I would like to help you respectfully get to know that irrational side of you and in a very non-threatening way help 'it' deal with its problems differently so that you can free yourself from feelings of anxiety, worry, depression and self doubt.
Throughout my career I have been able to form good relationships with my clients and over the years many have stated that therapy has been life changing. I believe in my clients and strongly believe they all have the capacity to overocome life’s difficulties and my therapy style is interactive, engaging and focused without lengthy silences.
You will be able to see me for a lenght of time that suits you. Some people benefit from just a few sessions, others prefer longer term support. In our early meetings we will discuss your treatment and I hope that I will be able to help you decide what type of therapy might be best for you.
New therapies that may be able to help when others have failed.
I have a keen interested in EMDR, Internal Family Systems Theory and Sensory Motor Psychotherapy which are emerging modalities at the cutting edge of psychotherapy.
In my career I have worked with people from all walks of life presenting with many different psychological problems and I have successfully worked with.
