About me

Hello and welcome to my profile. I offer a warm, caring and professional service in a safe, confidential, non-judgemental environment. I have a deep commitment to the work I do and to helping people come through difficulties and create better and more meaningful lives.

Sometimes you might feel that life is not working out the way you hoped it would, or that you are stuck in a way of living that is causing you stress and unhappiness. I will help you talk through what is troubling you and help enable you to make the changes you would like. Therapists are trained to listen in an accepting, understanding and supportive way, helping you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe environment. I believe we all have the capacity for change and through talking, can identify patterns of behaviour which may prevent us from living a more fulfilling life.

I am an experienced and fully qualified BACP Accredited Counsellor. I have worked for over the past 20 years in a wide range of settings such as, Occupational Health, Education, the NHS and I run a thriving Private Practice on a residential street near the centre of Beverley.

Individual Therapy
My training is in a Humanistic Integrative approach. The focus here being in the relationship formed between Counsellor and Client. Seeking a counsellor is a very personal choice and it will help to find someone who you feel comfortable with and whom you feel understands your thoughts and feelings.
The type of issues clients come to Counselling for are:-Depression, Anxiety, General Anxiety Disorder, Stress, Phobias, Trauma, feeling sad, Bereavement, Eating Disorders, Relationship issues and other emotional distress.

Trauma Therapy
Over the last few years I have been training and studying in different approaches to working with trauma. In particular, my interests lie with Dr Peter Levine’s Somatic Experiencing approach in which I have completed a 3 year professional training and am a qualified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) and also Lisa Schwartz’ Comprehensive resource model (CRM) in which I have completed the first level training. These are very gentle ways of working with Trauma and support the body while it renegotiates the experience.  Please see my website for more detailed information:- beverleycounselling.co.uk

Couples work
Relationships are an essential part of our lives. Close relationships can be very fulfilling, however they can also be difficult to maintain. I have experience in working with couples from different backgrounds. A couples therapist does not take sides and remains neutral. Therapy will help you to identify and understand behavioural patterns by encouraging fair and balanced communication between both partners.
I have completed the Externship in Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy founded by Sue Johnson. I also hold a certificate in couples counselling and am currently completing further training with the Couples Institute founded by Ellyn Bader and Peter Pearson.  Please visit my website for more detailed information:- beverleycounselling.co.uk

I offer a free telephone consultation where we can discuss therapy and the best route forward for you. Concessions are offered for the first session. Please ask.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
