I have been practicing as a counsellor since I qualified 18 years ago in 1998. I started studying for my diploma in counselling after I finished my degree in psychology and I have been practicing as a counsellor ever since. I have a wide variety of experience in all sorts of issues, including depression, worry and anxiety, generalised anxiety disorder, stress, anger management, couples counselling (previously called marriage guidance), relationship issues, bereavement and loss, serious illness and other lifestyle changes etc. I offer a supportive and ethical service to all my clients.
I have completed an Advanced Certificate Course on working with couples. Working with couples (previously called marriage guidance) is an important part of my work and I wanted to re-visit my initial training on couples counselling. I gained a lot from attending the course and continue to enjoy my work with couples.
Over the years, since qualification, I have been employed by a number of charities as a counsellor. I have also worked as a counselling manager in a local Hospice, managing a busy counselling service as well as seeing the Hospice clients. I have also worked as a counsellor at a GP practice, as well as having my own private practice which I started in April 2010.
Currently I work in private practice and I work as a student counsellor at a local American university campus. I am also a lecturer, teaching the 2nd and 3rd years of a 3 year counselling diploma course, training counselling students.
I also facilitate a group for bereaved parents, for those parents who have experienced the death of a child (regardless of their age). There is no charge for attending this group. It meets monthly on the last Thursday of the month from 7.30pm til 9.30pm in Grantham. Please contact me for details.
I have been an accredited counsellor with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy since April 2005 and a senior accredited counsellor since August 2012. This means that I have demonstrated to the BACP that I provide a competent, professional, ethical and independent practice and that I abide by their standards, ethics and guidelines. I am also a registered counsellor with the BACP.
As an accredited counsellor with the BACP I am required to have ongoing supervision and I see my supervisor on a fortnightly basis. This ensures that I continue to work ethically and professionally with all my clients.
Also, as a senior accredited counsellor with the BACP, I am required to continue with my professional development and education so I regularly attend workshops and training days and read extensively on the subject of psychotherapy and counselling. I enjoy this part of my professional life as continuing to learn and develop is important to me.
I am also a trained supervisor for those counsellors or student counsellors requiring supervision. I offer a reduced rate for supervision for counselling students.
I can offer appointments during the day, or evenings and I work Monday to Friday. I can also offer early morning appointments for those who have difficulty getting to me during the day due to work commitments.
