Thank you for taking the time to view my profile. I hope you find this information helpful. Please do not hesitate to contact me should you have any further questions about my counselling practice. In seeking a counsellor you are taking a significant step in helping yourself feel better and I wish you well in this search.
I will provide you with a safe and confidential space for you to talk about the difficulties you are currently experiencing and for us to find a way forward for you.
About me: Before my counselling career, I worked in a variety of different environments, I also did some voluntary work for many years. This experience made me curious about human beings and the way we think, feel and behave. It was after this that I began my initial counselling training.
How I work: I am an experienced and qualified counsellor and also a fellow human being and you are the expert on you! Between us we can work together to explore the difficulties you are experiencing and find ways to help you overcome the difficulties you are currently having.
Who I work with: Adult individuals aged 18+
Location: My private practice is situated in a first floor room in a house in Hamble-le-Rice. Approximately 2.5 miles from junction 8 of the M27. You may park across the driveway. Please note that I also have access to counselling rooms in Bevois Valley, Southampton - there may be an additional charge for counselling in this location, as there is a room hire charge for these rooms.
The issues I work with: Anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, low-confidence, difficulties in relationships, affairs and betrayals. separation and divorce, emotional instability, BPD, self-harm, work related stress, work related trauma, secondary trauma, the impact of rape and sexual abuse, bereavement, loss, suicidal thoughts, sexuality, gender, bullying, illness, ptsd.
Are you self-harming or find yourself shut off to others and your own feelings?? I offer an 8 session emotional coping skills, psycho-educational programme to help you understand yourself and your feelings better. This programme relies on you being willing to actively participate and will involve homework in your own time. Please make contact for further information..
Training, qualifications & experience
BA (Hons) Counselling
Diploma Gestalt/Humanistic Counselling
Essential Supervision Skills Certificate (CPD)
In 2004 I began volunteering for a local rape crisis service where I undertook their extensive, 100 hour training, which prepared me for working with clients that have experienced rape and/or sexual abuse. I began working on the confidential telephone help-line and after further training and on completing my Diploma was taken on as a paid member of the staff team where I see 10 clients per week and conduct assessments. During this longer term therapy, many issues are worked with, not just rape or sexual abuse.
While studying for my degree I further developed my skills, with modules on Gender and Human Sexuality, CBT, Supervision, Trauma and Contemporary Developments such as Narrative Therapy and Neuroscience.
Recently I have attended workshops on working creatively and mentalisation based therapy and attended Essential Supervision Skills training which was approved by The British Psychological Society. I regularly co-facilitate a group on emotional coping skills.
I wrote my dissertation on the subject of vicarious trauma, I am interested in how people who work within the field of trauma are affected by their experience.
