About me

Choosing a therapist can come at a very stressful and confusing time. To help I offer a free introductory telephone appointment to assist you. This time is often used to ask some questions and see if counselling and I could be the right form of support for you. There is no obligation to tie in as you may need more time before committing to such a personal process.
People come to counselling for many reasons there are no fixed rules for coming. Whether you are going through a challenging phase, suffer from anxiety, want to improve your emotional well-being, change behaviour, explore relationship difficulties or perhaps just need some additional support with interviewing
techniques - counselling does help.

I am  an accredited and registered counsellor and qualified supervisor with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I have 25 years of experience of practicing within the mental health sector including the NHS and recognised award winnings charities.  I offer short and long term therapy to Adults, Young People and Children.

How can counselling help?

Counselling gives you the opportunity to talk in a safe place with someone who is non-judgemental, empathic and objective who you can trust to keep everything you say completely confidential unless safeguarding concerns arise. Within this setting it is then possible to talk about what can sometimes be very painful issues or challenges within your life that you may be struggling with. Counselling offers insight and clarity into what can often seem confusing and difficult feelings, and can help you to manage issues such as anxiety, bereavement, life changes, anger, relationship struggle, depression, stress and more.
My role is to get to know you and help you gain greater insight into the way you respond to yourself and others and why you may think and feel the way you do. This awareness becomes conscious by exploring, understanding and learning together how your life history effects your present and by recognising patterns of behaviour and scripts that no longer serve you or are in your best interests.
Through acknowledging feelings and understanding of behaviours you can then begin to let go of the ones that do not help you. Counselling can help you find different perspectives, learn new skills, gain greater awareness, raise confidence enabling change

Interviews and Public Speaking

I am also able to provide approaches that can help with confidence when attending interviews or public speaking. Many clients view this approach as a form of coaching in enabling personal development and find the learning very helpful in their everyday living. Please do enquire if you wish to know more about these cognitive approaches to the work.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
