About me

I offer a safe, calm, supportive environment where you can explore and work through issues that are troubling you.  The goal of therapy is to not only relieve symptoms but to build self-esteem and allow you to understand yourself better (and others) and lead a happier and more fulfilled life.  This may mean developing your ability to: problem solve; to have healthier relationships with others; to make better use of your skills and abilities; and to accept a wider range of emotions.

I work with clients experiencing

A range of issues including: anxiety, depression, OCD, low self-esteem, body dysmorphia, trauma, loss, transitions, issues related to disability, neurodiversity and gender identity. I also work with clients (males, females and non-binary) who are looking to make sense of difficult relationship patterns (personal or professional).

Something about the way I practise

My initial training was in psychodynamic counselling. This is a form of therapy that focuses on: the exploration of emotions and the identification of recurring themes and patterns in a person’s life. This may include work on self-concept, relationships and life experiences. As we are all shaped by our past and tend to repeat patterns of behaviour there is a focus on past experience and developmental focus to help understand current psychological difficulties. The aim of this work is to help you live more fully in the present.

As part of an Integrated Masters in Psychotherapy, I was exposed to a number of other therapeutic disciplines including; Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Transactional Analysis and Systemic practise. I use other counselling techniques where appropriate to suit the needs of individual clients.

I offer in person sessions to adults and young people (13-18) in East Sussex BN25. I also offer online sessions for adults and young people and these can be accessed from anywhere in the country. I do have some low-cost spaces available for clients on lower incomes. I offer short or long-term therapy dependent upon your needs.

I am aware that the decision to embark upon counselling can be daunting. I am happy to talk over the phone or meet on Zoom to discuss whether therapy may be helpful to you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I retrained as a psychotherapist, after initially studying English and following an early career in Education and the Public Sector.

I have completed five years of intensive training including a Post Graduate Diploma in psychodynamic counselling (PG Dip) and a Master’s Degree in psychotherapy (MSc). As a requirement of training, I was in counselling for 5 years and I believe it is important for practitioners to receive counselling before assisting others. I offer counselling and psychotherapy to adults and young people aged 13 to 18. I have completed safeguarding training for working online with adolescents and enjoy working with this age group. I am registered with three professional bodies – BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) UKCP ((United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) and UPCA (Universities Psychotherapy and Counselling Association). I am an accredited clinical member of UPCA and a UKCP clinical psychotherapist.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

UKCP
UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP)

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
