About me

Do you, your partner, or your child have a genetic diagnosis or complex medical needs?

Are you pregnant? Or planning a pregnancy after a loss?

Do you wonder if a therapist will understand these unique issues and feel overwhelmed looking for support? I believe that I may be the right therapist for you.

Anxiety, depression, and stress can impact your emotional well-being. I am highly experienced in supporting clients, particularly parents, and adults with a personal or family history of a genetic diagnosis. I work with you one to one for 6-8 sessions, or long term to suit your needs. I can help you to feel less anxious, stressed, and work towards improved emotional regulation; leading to self acceptance and confidence. I am able to understand your early childhood experiences, past, and current relationships; also how these impact your difficulties today. These may be added layers to your family issues experienced today.

I have a special interest in genetics and am experienced in providing counselling to adults with rare genetic diagnoses and to parents of a child with complex medical needs. I have extensive experience of working with Huntington's Disease families through Enroll-HD and Legato-HD. I am also experienced in supporting clients during and after pregnancy, including antenatal testing and results, miscarriage, and loss.

I have an online practice and aim to work with you flexibly. Often time is a factor and I would encourage you to invest in your emotional well being to be the person or parent you want to be.

It is hard to take the first step and let someone in. I am privileged to provide a safe and supportive space to my clients experiencing difficulties. I work safely and ethically within the BACP ethical framework and aim to work with you with humility and care. My past experience as a genetic counsellor in the NHS is an asset in my role as a therapist.

Training, qualifications & experience

My past work experience as a genetic counsellor in the NHS has included working with individuals, couples, and families for over 9 years.  I incorporate this knowledge and experience of genetic conditions, family issues, and teaching to support my work as a therapist.

I proudly re-trained as a Therapeutic Counsellor at DS Counselling Training in Kent and adhere to their high standards and professionalism in my work. I then undertook further training in Attachment based Psychotherapy from Optima Health Services. Therefore, I am able to understand you, and the link of attachment styles and defences to your personal relationships. By exploring your early childhood, important attachment figures, you can understand yourself at a deeper level. My hope is to support you through your difficulties and help you to have a connection and understanding with yourself. This can create the process of change you hope to make during this time.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
