About me

Hi, I’m Tina.

If you're here it's probably because you, or someone you know, needs some support right now. I am really sorry to hear that. But I'm also really happy that you are here because reaching out for help is never easy. I know because I've been there. That's why I do what I do now.

Through the last 20+ years of clinical, personal, and academic experience I've learned a lot of skills and techniques to help people to quieten their minds, take back control, and refresh their relationships. I have helped people just like you to find freedom from physical pain, worry, and anxiety

I specialise in working with chronic/persistent pain and other mind-body symptoms such as IBS, migraine, tinnitus, RSI, fibromyalgia, etc.

I am a fully insured, BABCP-accredited, Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist. This means I have undertaken specific post-graduation training and continue to adhere to strict standards of conduct, performance, and ethics.

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) has been found to be helpful for a wide range of emotional and physical health conditions. During CBT we are helped to examine how we think about a situation (cognitions) and how this affects the way we act (behaviour). In turn, our actions can affect how we think and feel. The way our body feels is linked to our emotions and our thoughts. If negative interpretations of situations go unchallenged, then these patterns in our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, and behaviour can become part of a continuous cycle and keep issues going.

Everybody is different. So, working together we map out your individual patterns and take note of any thoughts or behaviours that are unhelpful for you. We then think about whether those could be changed in any way. We will focus on what is going on in your life right now, but we might also look at your past, and think about how your past experiences have impacted the way you see the world today.

Why CBT?

  • NICE (The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence) is an organisation that produces guidelines that are evidence-based recommendations for health and care in England. CBT is recommended as the most effective treatment for anxiety disorders and is also recommended for the treatment of depression by NICE. NICE recommends CBT in the treatment of the following conditions:
  • agoraphobia
  • depression
  • generalised anxiety disorder
  • illness/health anxiety
  • obsessive-compulsive disorder
  • panic attacks
  • panic disorder
  • phobias
  • post-traumatic stress disorder
  • trichotillomania

There is also good evidence that CBT is helpful in treating many other conditions, including:

  • chronic fatigue
  • chronic pain
  • IBS
  • Fibromyalgia
  • Tinnitus
  • RSI
  • sleep difficulties

*There are many psychotherapists and counsellors offering cognitive behavioural therapy. Always ensure that your therapist is professionally accredited with the British Association of Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapy (BABCP).

Mindfulness

I am also a Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) teacher and practice meditation and mindfulness myself daily. ‘’Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.”

This is the classic definition of Mindfulness given by Jon Kabat-Zinn. Kabat-Zinn is credited with bringing Mindfulness to the West. Although Mindfulness originates from Buddhist philosophy, it is not a religious practice. There are several elements to Mindfulness that can be quite subtle. With practice, we learn how to step out of autopilot and make more skillful decisions. Mindfulness, therefore, can help us to be less reactive to the world around us and make us feel calmer, more in control, and happier. This has been proven in many research studies.

The Next Step

When we feel stressed, low, anxious, or in pain, we need help as soon as possible, as easily as possible. That’s why I try to offer appointments with minimal waiting times, as easily as possible.

I appreciate just how difficult it can be to make the decision to get help. Well done for taking the first step. I will try to make the journey as painless as possible.

Additional information

Hiya,

I believe that therapy is an investment in yourself and your future. It is to be considered carefully as it requires a commitment of time, money, and energy. That said the rewards can be huge. Some of my clients have overcome 30 years of back pain, or a lifetime of tinnitus, another was able to return to socialising and working after a period of being housebound.

As an Anxiety and Chronic Pain specialist, I invite you to invest in packages of care, rather than individual sessions. This enables us to work toward concrete goals over a period of time, not constrained by the number of appointments it takes to get there.

I am happy to discuss your requirements and needs in a complimentary consultation booked via my website www.evolve-psychotherapy.co.uk/book-online

with hope and healing
