About me

Before I'm a therapist, I'm a person who has been somewhere real. I entered residential rehabilitation in 2004. What changed everything wasn't a programme or a technique - it was being genuinely met by someone who didn't look away. That experience is the foundation of everything I bring into the room.

I work with people carrying trauma, addiction, relational wounds, anxiety, and existential questions. This includes therapists and other practitioners who hold others all day and have quietly run out of somewhere to put their own weight - people who know the language of therapy inside out and need someone who won't hide behind it.

Many people who find their way here have tried other things. They've understood their patterns, done the reading, perhaps been in therapy before - and something still hasn't shifted. What I offer isn't a different technique. It's a different quality of contact: genuine presence, relational depth, and someone who won't look away from what you bring, however long you've carried it.

I work online across the UK and internationally, and in person in Cornwall.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a Certified Compassionate Inquiry® Practitioner, trained in the direct lineage of Dr Gabor Maté - one of approximately 45 in the UK, and one of only two based in Cornwall. Certification required completion of the year-long Professional Online Training, followed by a six-month Mentorship Programme including personal, group and peer mentorship, 100 documented clinical hours across 20 different clients, case study submissions, and an independent video review of a live session - assessed not just for technique but for what is showing up in the practitioner themselves.

I hold a Level 5 Diploma in Person-Centred Counselling and Therapy from the University of Plymouth - a BACP Gold Standard accredited programme - and I am a BACP Registered Member (MBACP, 420793).

I have sixteen years in therapeutic work, approaching a decade of that alongside people carrying some of the most complex and challenging presentations in the field - daily group therapy, individual sessions, and clinical supervision within residential addiction and community services.

I remain in my own ongoing personal therapy, including Somatic Experiencing work and continued Compassionate Inquiry practice. I believe you cannot be a clear mirror for another person's pain if you cannot sit with your own.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

I also work with people at the existential frontier - where the question is no longer what happened to me, but what it means to be fully alive. This includes people who have done significant inner work and arrived somewhere most therapy cannot reach, and people who don't yet have words for what they're looking for - only that they haven't found it yet.

Further information

Sessions follow what you bring - there's no protocol, no fixed agenda, no pressure to arrive with the right words. I draw on Compassionate Inquiry and Person-Centred Therapy not as methods to apply, but as a way of being with another person that makes real meeting possible.

A free 20-minute introductory conversation is available before any commitment to begin - just a chance to speak and to find out whether this feels like the right contact.
