About me

I am a relational-integrative counsellor, working in-person with clients in Bristol and online with clients across the UK. Whether you are unsure of the reasons for your distress, or you have a particular issue you'd like support with, I can offer an empathic, non-judgmental and creative space for you to explore your experiences. I also appreciate that it can be daunting to find the right counsellor, so I offer a free 15 min online or phone session where you can find out more about how I work and whether we might be a good fit.  Just drop me a line or contact me via my website.

I have experience working with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, abuse, grief, substance use, and disordered eating. I also have a particular interest in relationship concerns and workplace issues.

I'm LGBTQIA+ affirming and welcome all forms of relationships and identities.

Training, qualifications & experience

As an integrative counsellor, I can draw on a range of theories and tools to help you explore your experiences in ways that best support your individual needs. These include Relational Psychotherapy which recognises the importance of relationships to our sense of wellbeing. Within this, I draw on Psychodynamic and Gestalt approaches because I believe that our ways of being can be understood by exploring our past experiences, as well as the ways we feel ‘in the here and now’.

I also borrow from Narrative therapy with respect to my view that ‘the person is not the problem, the problem is the problem’. Narrative therapy emphasizes that the stories we develop about ourselves are not about us alone, and there is also the possibility of re-authoring our stories if there are parts we feel are problematic.

I use aspects of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to support clients who may be struggling with difficult experiences and to help manage negative feelings and thoughts. This approach allows the exploration of language and its influence on the ways we understand ourselves in the context of wider society. Using tools from ACT, I can provide ways to help clients identify their values, sense of self, or goals they wish to commit to.

Together these approaches also provide room for creativity in our work, such as drawing and writing, if this feels helpful. I provide a range of materials in the therapy room for you to use as you wish.

My training and qualifications include:

  • UWE Bristol – July 2023 – MA Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • University of Cardiff – June 2022 – Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Part 1
  • UWE Bristol – June 2012 – PG Diploma Careers guidance
  • UWE Bristol – Jan 2008 – PhD ‘The Attitudes of Young People Towards Climate Change’

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
