About me

My name is Sophie and I am an integrative counsellor which means I am able to tailor the support I offer to meet your current needs – working through the issues you may be facing at your own pace in a safe and supportive environment, in order to help you move forward.

The first step of your journey is asking for help which takes courage – whether your journey is to a place of better wellbeing or to process feelings and events you’ve experienced or are still experiencing, I can help you to look at what’s happening in your life currently and to address whatever you feel may be holding you back. I can offer support to people experiencing a range of conditions such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationship issues, work-related issues, self-harm, loss and addictions.

I offer a non-judgemental approach to therapy – in my role, I will listen to your thoughts, feelings and insights, and be respectful of your values and beliefs. This offers you a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings in order to help you process and find your own resolutions to the issues that you may be facing – this includes gaining insight into behaviours that may be repetitive and or destructive and holding you back from fulfilling your own goals.

Working integratively and practicing from a relational approach means that I value the relationships you have with yourself and the outside world. By having a calm and gentle demeanour and offering warmth, I am able to build meaningful relationships which will provide the foundation for our sessions together. It’s important that you have time for yourself to talk through your feelings because of the situation you may be going through – whether it be stress, grief or related to traumatic events.

Training, qualifications & experience

I am a British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Registered Counsellor and an Accredited Member with the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS). I work from an integrative model, and I can offer both short term support and longer open-ended counselling for individuals. Being a part of the BACP and NCPS means I work to a high standard of confidentiality – I am fully ensured and hold an Enhanced DBS Certificate.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
