About me

About me:

Hello and welcome,

Thank you for taking the time to access my profile here on the Counselling Directory. I guess if you find yourself here then things may be a little difficult for you at the moment? The reason why people access counselling can be for a number of different reasons all of which are valid and important. Tackling these challenges can sometimes feel like a lonely and daunting journey. These are all natural feelings, with many of these feelings easing once sessions start.

As a therapist, my job is to come alongside you in that journey to offer support, nurture, challenge and hope. I offer a compassionate and caring space, which allows you to explore the difficulties you may be experiencing free from, judgement, pressure or expectation. Alongside exploring these difficulties counselling offers the opportunity to develop a greater self-awareness, this can have a profound impact on both your relationship with yourself but also the relationships held with others. This greater sense of awareness can lead to a sense of peace and control in your life.

How I work:

I am trained in the humanistic approach with a particular focus on Transactional Analysis. I believe that everyone is individual and as such everyone will have their own values, beliefs and views on the world. These views are important and I respect these, through working together in a client-counsellor relationship we are able to identify goals and facilitate working towards these goals whilst staying true to your own beliefs and values.

Counselling can be often perceived as the stereotypical view of a being led down on a sofa and talking about childhood, although there is a place for this approach, I personally work in a very different way. I work in a more creative and flexible way, which allows me to adapt my approach to my client to ensure that we are able to develop a strong, trusting relationship. Building this relationship can help clients explore the issues that brought them to counselling in a safe and comfortable way.

I have been working for a local charitable organisation for the last 5 years, working with both adults and young people in a variety of ways, these including 1:1 counselling, therapeutic and psychoeducational group work and intensive youth work. Aside from my work with this organisation I also have experience of working with clients who have experienced loss or significant life changes through illness, through experienced gained at other local organisations.

I have a depth of knowledge related to childhood sexual abuse, sexual assault, domestic abuse. In addition I have also worked and supported adults and young people who have or experience anxiety, depression/low mood, anger, relationship issues, stress and lowered self-esteem.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy which sets ethical guidelines for the counselling that I provide. I understand the importance of offering a service that is both high in quality and delivered in a caring way that supports my clients. I also hold a valid DBS check which allows me to work with young people.

I offer 1:1 counselling for both adults and young people, whilst co facilitating a therapy group for young adults (18-25 year olds) who have a particular want to develop a better sense of self confidence and greater self-esteem.

I look forward to hearing from, if it isn't me that you choose to contact, may I wish you all the best in your onward journey.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
