About me

Hi I’m Sarah, a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor. I run a quiet private practice on the eastern outskirts of Bicester with free parking, where I provide confidential in-person and telephone counselling to adults. The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my practice as I believe this is what enables us to heal.

As my client, you are my priority and I strive to offer a therapeutic relationship where there is mutual trust, you feel heard, understood and valued, as a whole unique person.

I understand how daunting deciding to see a counsellor can be. Often it’s the first difficult step, especially if you have never experienced counselling before. We all experience ups and downs which we often manage by talking them through with friends or family. Sometimes though this is not always possible or enough and no matter who or where we are in our lives, many of us find ourselves facing difficulties, impacting our emotional wellbeing. Perhaps you’ve suffered a bereavement, are living with unresolved trauma or experiencing family issues / relationship problems. You may feel angry, overwhelmed, isolated, anxious or even stuck and depressed. Sometimes it is difficult to put a finger on what is troubling you and it’s times like these it can be helpful to seek therapy. Whatever it is that is troubling you, I will listen empathically and support you.

My warm, inviting non-judgemental approach offers a safe space for you to use to explore at your own pace, what is important to you. Working together through the therapeutic relationship, can help make sense of your thoughts, feelings and life experiences, empowering you.

As a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, I am trained to use a range of modalities. Being trained in different modalities means I adapt my approach, depending on your needs.

I work from a Person-Centred approach which enables me to see the world from your viewpoint. Transactional Analysis offers a framework in understanding your patterns of behaviour and how you communicate with others and yourself. Gestalt offers creativity. I have numerous CPD’s in Polyvagal Theory which I believe works well with my core modalities and may use this model within our work, focusing on the fight, flight, freeze response.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Additional information

It is important to find a counsellor who you feel comfortable with, therefore I would initially invite you to a free introductory 30-minute telephone call to connect and talk about what is troubling you and what you hope to gain from therapy. You may also have questions about the counselling process, and I can tell you a little about how I work. This will help to clarify whether I am the right counsellor for you, (necessary for building the therapeutic relationship) and enable me to ensure I can competently offer you a professional and safe therapeutic experience.

Sessions are £60 for 50 minutes.

If you are interested in finding out more, I welcome you to email me via the contact form or book an ‘intro call’. I answer all enquires within 24 hours during the working week.
