About me

Your safety and well-being is my priority.

I am a qualified humanistic integrative counsellor with experience in the voluntary and private sectors.  I started my training in 1989 in Sheffield and have since practised counselling for various voluntary organisations until finally qualifying last year. It has been a long journey but I bring all my vast experience and knowledge to our work together.

My focus is on you; offering an individual, confidential service to support you with whatever you feel you need to bring.  You can be totally confident you will feel supported and heard, free from judgement or criticism. I create a warm, supportive space where you will feel safe and be heard. I like to work creatively and bring warmth, genuine interest and with a variety of tools and techniques to support you in or work together. My particular interests are people first, the arts (literature, film, music, and painting in particular) natural history, religion and philosophy) and learning. I continue my personal growth with ongoing training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Focussing.

I offer a free, initial consultation, where we can meet, share information and decide if and  how we wish to proceed. There is absolutely no obligation, but I welcome the opportunity to work with you.

I have regular supervision to monitor my work, reflect on  my practice, explore theoretical perspectives and maintain my personal health and wellbeing. In this way I can ensure I am providing the best possible service possible.

Training, qualifications & experience

I achieved a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling in 1990 but most recently achieved my Level 4 Diploma in Integrative Humanistic Counselling in 2022.I am a registered member of the BACP (professional body for counsellors). My first placement in the voluntary sector was with Share Psychotherapy Agency in Sheffield and most recently I have been working for Redlands Counselling and Training. I am currently training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and until qualified offer this service at a reduced rate. I can explain in more detail during our initial consultation if you would like more information.

My experiences is in working with adults experiencing a variety of emotional difficulties including depression, anxiety,  and issues with family, work and personal relationships.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information

I am newly qualified but with a wealth of counselling and life experience. All I have I will bring to our work together and you will receive a professional service in all respects. I am organised and pragmatic and believe the benefits in counselling stem from the quality of the counsellor/ client relationship. A relationship based on trust and equality where we work collaboratively.

We will agree a contract and set regular reviews to assess our progress. I like to agree an initial number of sessions prior to the first review. Our work together and contract will be in agreement and my service is designed with maximum flexibility so I can adapt to provide the service you want.

I can offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy alongside and with other humanistic modalities. This means I can adapt my approach to meet your needs. CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) may be your preferred approach in working with social anxiety, grief, anxiety and phobias.
