Introducing myself:
I am a fully qualified, registered Counsellor, offering a professional and confidential service. I draw upon 15 years of experience working as a health professional within the NHS prior to training as a counsellor. Since qualifying, I have worked for a charity supporting disadvantaged women, in addition to establishing a private practice from my home.
My Approach:
My core theoretical model is grounded in person-centered philosophy, and I work from an integrative perspective, incorporating approaches from cognitive behavioural and psychoanalytical models. This enables me to individualise my service, ensuring that each client is regarded as unique. I work holistically, considering a person’s life stage and experience, alongside their psychosocial, physical, psychological, spiritual, and emotional psyche. I am especially knowledgeable of the close association between physical and mental wellness and understand the impact impaired physical health can have on a person’s mental well-being.
What I Offer:
I offer individual short-and long-term counselling, from the comfort of my first-floor therapy room, or alternatively ‘walk & talk therapy’ which can be tailored to suit individual physical abilities. Outdoor therapy can be especially helpful for people with sensory or processing disorders and can feel less intimidating as the client and counsellor work alongside each other, rather than sitting in close proximity. Nature can soothe and calm the mind, whilst exercise releases endorphins which are natural mood enhancers.
Whichever mode of counselling you seek, I aim to provide a professional, ethical service which is inclusive and non-judgmental. For clients who have accessibility requirements i.e., wheelchair users or individuals who are dependent on walking aid devices, I offer remote sessions either by telephone or online. I also consider home visits, (Additional charges for fuel and travel time may apply).
Why Counselling?
Recognising you need help is the first step to change. Life is challenging and often we need to share our worries and anxieties but do not want to burden our partners or family. Sharing our problems with a person who is impartial, non-judgmental, and can act as a professional sounding board, can be life-transforming.
The Therapeutic Relationship:
The unique therapy relationship is built on a foundation of trust, reinforced by the ethical obligation of confidentiality. This means that what you share with your counsellor remains private, with a few exceptions related to safety. The counsellor provides a safe space where the client can express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without fear of judgment, enabling a vulnerability and openness to be expressed which might not be possible in other relationships.
The client-counsellor relationship is professional, with clear boundaries that prevent it from becoming personal or social. This helps maintain the focus on your needs and therapeutic goals. The relationship is purpose-driven, with a focus on helping you achieve specific personal or emotional goals. This makes it different from friendships or other personal relationships, where the focus might be more mutual.
Unlike friendships or family relationships, where emotional support is often reciprocal, the client-counselor relationship is one-sided. The counsellor’s role is to support you without expecting anything in return, allowing you to focus solely on your own healing. Unlike most relationships, the client-counselor relationship is typically designed to be temporary, lasting only as long as needed to achieve your therapeutic goals. Despite its temporary nature, the impact of this relationship can be profound and long-lasting, influencing how you relate to yourself and others long after therapy ends.
This unique combination of trust, empathy, professional boundaries, and a focus on your well-being creates a relationship that can be incredibly powerful in promoting healing and personal growth.
What to expect:
Initially, we can complete a free brief telephone consultation. This offers an opportunity for you to discuss your issues and decide if you feel we can work together. We can also consider what mode of counselling you prefer, i.e. phone, online, in-person, or outdoor therapy.
Your first session of counselling can be a pivotal experience, setting the tone for your therapeutic journey. Here's what you can generally expect:
1. Introductions and Rapport Building
I will introduce myself and share with you my experience and qualifications.
You will have an opportunity to discuss your background, and why you are seeking counselling.
Building trust is important, so I will focus on making you feel comfortable and at ease.
2. Confidentiality Discussion
I will explain the importance of confidentiality within our sessions, including what information will remain private and any exceptions (such as if there's a risk of harm to yourself or others).
3. Exploring Your Issues
You'll be asked to describe the issues or concerns that brought you to counselling. This can include emotional, psychological, or situational difficulties.
You don't need to share everything right away; this is the beginning of a process, and you can pace yourself.
4. Assessment and Goal Setting
I might ask you open-ended questions to better understand your current situation, history, and what you hope to achieve through counselling.
Together, we may start to set some initial goals for your therapy. These could be specific (e.g., reducing anxiety) or more general (e.g., improving self-understanding).
5. Explaining the Process
I will explain how the counselling process works, including the frequency of sessions, the methods I might use, and what you can expect in future sessions.
If you have any questions about the process or my approach, this is a good time to ask.
6. Your Feelings and Reactions
It’s normal to feel a range of emotions during your first session, from relief to anxiety. I am there to support you, so you can share how you’re feeling about the process itself.
7. Practical Arrangements
The initial session will cover practical details like session length, fees, cancellations, and how to contact me between sessions if needed. A copy of the contract will be provided for you to sign. This will form our working agreement.
8. Your Choice
Remember, you have the choice to decide if you feel we can work effectively together and if you are comfortable.
Tips for Your First Session
Be Honest: The more open you are, the more I can help.
Ask Questions: If something is unclear, don’t hesitate to ask for clarification.
Take Notes: You might want to jot down anything that seems important during the session.
Self-Care: After the session, take some time to process your experience. It’s okay if it feels emotionally intense.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
