About me

It can be hard, starting therapy. Telling a stranger the story of your most painful experience or memory. Describing the darkness and crippling self-criticism of your thoughts. It might, for some, be the hardest thing they ever do.

Are you tired of living with self-doubt and anxiety? If you’re struggling with stress, anxiety or depression in your life and can’t, or don't want to cope with it any more. I can help you get to the true cause. I work deeply with my clients to discover the origins of the problem, and what or who might be maintaining it. Depending on what is required, I can be insightful, analytical and challenging. I also offer my easy going manner and sense of humour to help you find understanding and lasting positive change.

Based in Whitley Bay, my professional training is of the highest BACP and UKCP standard. I’m a qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor offering online and face-to-face therapy sessions for those experiencing all kinds of issues from relationship difficulties, grief, depression and anxiety, all the way to complex PTSD from trauma and childhood sexual, psychological and physical abuse.

Are you suffering anxiety; an overwhelming sense of worthlessness? Low self-esteem? I have in depth training and experience of helping people with issues ranging from grief, depression and loneliness, to existential anxiety, PTSD and suicidal thoughts. I can help alleviate stress and guide you through exploring your difficulties and emotions in a comfortable and confidential manner.

I'm an Integrative Humanistic Person Centred Psychotherapeutic Counsellor, which means I combine many modalities of therapy including CBT, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt, phenomenology... But I also have a sense of humour, I'm creative in my style and have a flare for employing the use of metaphor, active imagination, Guided Imagery and dream analysis in promoting exploration of the subconscious mind. Sharing the journey to understanding and freeing my clients from unrealistic expectations and critical judgements of themselves is core to my practice.

I'm a laid back guy, this helps my clients to feel relaxed and safe, vital for working in depth on issues such as historical trauma, sexual, physical and psychological abuse which require a strong therapeutic connection and trust.

Based in Whitley Bay, contact me to book a session or talk through your therapy options. We can talk about your problems, I’ll try and help you find solutions.

Types of appointments available:

Traditional face to face psychotherapy in a comfortable, private therapy room. Located in a beautiful Georgian town house in Tynemouth. The best possible environment to work through anxiety of all kinds.

Walk and talk sessions on Whitley Bay beach. Meeting up face to face for a stroll along the prom or beach is an amazing backdrop for therapy sessions. Naturally, the weather may have a few things to say about how therapeutic this is! If it gets bad, there's always...

Online therapy. Video call sessions via VSee and Zoom. If you have a laptop, tablet or mobile phone and privacy, this can be a great option. Staying in the comfort of your own home saves the anxiety of 'other people' and saves travelling time... However, if your own home is what you need to escape, leaving the house with your phone and some headphones to attend the call on the move or in a safe place can also work. This is dependent on a full battery, at least a 4g signal and plenty of data (preferably unlimited). If that's not possible...

Phone call. Maximum accessibility for those who need it. Potentially less effective due to the lack of visual and physical cues, but still a viable option in combination with face to face and video call as a means of maintaining consistency.

Pete.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
