About me

Hello, I’m Nicky, welcome to my profile. I hope the following information about me and the way I work helps you with your decision in choosing the right therapist for you at what I imagine may be an overwhelming and difficult time.

How are you?

I named my counselling practice Vox which is Latin for voice. Does yours feel heard?

You may be going through a bereavement, a challenging time in your relationship or at work. Perhaps you’re feeling low and feel confused as to why or have difficulty finding the words to explain how you feel?

The way I work

What I am most passionate about is listening to and understanding people. As an experienced counsellor, I am aware of how the way we speak to ourselves can shape our thoughts and behaviours and effect the way we see ourselves, our relationships and how we cope with challenging times.

Seeking support to voice your thoughts and feelings, I understand, can feel really daunting and uncomfortable. My biggest aim when working alongside you as a client is that you feel accepted and free from judgment in order to express yourself and work things out. I believe my down to earth, warm, gently curious nature and non-jargoned way of talking, alongside being able to hold boundaries and confidentiality can help encourage you do to this and lead the happy life you deserve.

This ‘way of being’ in my work as a counsellor underpins my training in Person Centred therapy, which at its roots, believes that you as a client are your own expert as you know what hurts and that you have the ability to grow and fulfil your potential.

My Experience

My experience within mental health ripples beyond the counselling field, having worked for over 20 years within a number of local educational and third sector organisations, offering not only therapy but also as a facilitator of peer support groups and creative mental health workshops, therefore I have a broad knowledge of psycho education and further support services in the area which I am open to sharing within sessions if needed.

I love working with a wide demographic of clients presenting a range of issues including bereavement, anxiety, stress, caring responsibilities, relationship struggles, workplace issues and depression.

Getting started/How you can access my service

To meet your needs, I can offer access to counselling in a variety of ways from face to face in my therapy room in Ossett town centre in Wakefield, telephone or online. I offer a free consultation of up to 15 minutes to consider how we might work together. This will be done over the phone at a mutually agreed time. Here we can discuss what is going on for you, your hopes for counselling, answer any questions about the process and most importantly, see if it feels like a good fit.

If during this consultation I feel your needs are outside of my skill set, I may suggest alternative therapists or organisations for support.

Feel free to visit my website for more information about my services.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
