About me

Welcome.  Reaching out in times of difficulty or to address issues from the past can feel extremely daunting.  And yet, at times life can compromise our capacity to cope on our own and asking for some help to get back on track is both normal and understandable.  Perhaps you are here because you feel overwhelmed by anxiety or depression including postnatal depression? Perhaps you have experienced trauma or are generally struggling with life or relationships?   Perhaps you feel lonely or numb or have experienced a profound loss through death, divorce, or miscarriage?  Or perhaps you feel debilitated by anger or low self-esteem?  Whatever is troubling you, I am here to help you find a way forward.

I'm Nadine, an experienced BACP-registered Counsellor and Psychologist in Bath.  Whatever struggles you are facing, we can find a way forward together.  In addition to my extensive client-work experience, I also have a nearly 30-year history of working as an NHS Midwife, Business Psychologist, and as a Coach/Mentor including for the Prince's Trust.   As a therapist, my approach is "humanistic-integrative" which essentially means that you are at the very heart of our therapy relationship and that I will draw upon a number of counselling methods to tailor the therapy to you as an individual.  Since I regard you as truly unique, we work together to develop an approach that is just right for you.  Through this tailored approach, anchored in my belief in treating the 'whole' person, I will help you access your own answers, growth, and healing, opening the door to resilience and empowerment.

My style is open-hearted, warm, deeply compassionate, and completely accepting of who you are.  I will make you feel seen and understood and, most importantly, we will build a relationship based on trust and genuine connection.  Working with you, I will provide empathy, gentle challenge, alternative perspectives, and psychoeducation where appropriate so that you can feel empowered and begin to emerge from unhelpful patterns and burdensome situations.  My special areas of interest are trauma (including (C)PTSD), attachment relationships, anxiety, and also life transitions such as midlife and pregnancy/perinatal issues including miscarriage, abortion, and postnatal depression.  I also have extensive experience working with clients suffering from depression, grief,  individuals with brain injuries, those diagnosed with BPD, and clients who are neurodivergent.  This list is not exhaustive and please call or email me if you would like to know how I can help you personally.

Training, qualifications & experience

With almost 30 years of experience in the helping professions as an NHS Midwife, a Business Psychologist, and Coach/Mentor including for the Prince's Trust, I feel I have seen life from many angles and can deeply empathise with the struggles individuals can face.  Whilst I have a special interest in trauma/(C)PTSD, anxiety, pregnancy-related difficulties, and neurodivergence, I also have extensive experience working with clients who seek my help for a range of other problems.  These include but are not limited to depression, loss or bereavement, lack of self-esteem, relationship difficulties, life transitions, anger management, and BPD.

I offer a warm, compassionate, relational space which is fully accepting of you as you truly are and in which we can safely explore your inner and outer worlds without judgment.  Together we will find a way forward that feels just right for you. Please reach out via email if you would like to ask any further questions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Having gained much experience in trauma-informed therapy through working with affected clients in my practice, I am also a trained Midwife with almost 15 years of NHS experience. Through this, I have developed a lot of insight, understanding, and compassion regarding the ups and downs, joys and challenges as well as the trauma that can be associated with pregnancy, birth, and the postnatal period.

However, in addition, with a background in Psychology/Organisational Psychology, working first in business and later as a Midwife for the NHS, I feel I can bring much life experience and an astute awareness of life's complexities to my counselling practice helping people through all manner of life transitions and difficulties.

Wheelchair user access info
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

For some of my sessions I have access to a ground floor room but not for all, so I cannot unfortunately guarantee this for all enquiries. Most of my sessions are on the second floor of a building with no lift.
