About me

A very warm welcome. Reaching out for support in times of change, distress, or to process issues from the past can feel daunting.  And yet, when life events thwart us and you seek out therapy, you are taking the first step towards positive change.  You may feel anxious, depressed, overwhelmed or lacking in self-esteem. Perhaps you have experienced trauma including birth trauma or a loss through death, divorce, or miscarriage.   Perhaps you are struggling with some aspects of neurodivergence or it may not be fully clear yet what’s bothering you.  I'm Nadine, an experienced BACP registered Counsellor, Psychologist,  EMDR practitioner, and Mentor and I'd love to hear from you.

With a 30-year history in the caring professions as an NHS Midwife, Psychologist, Coach/Mentor, and Counsellor/EMDR practitioner, I bring a holistic understanding of well-being to my work. My background has given me deep empathy, the ability to support people in distress, and a practical, grounded approach to therapy. I offer a safe space to explore your experiences at your own pace, helping you gain insight, navigate challenges, and develop strategies for meaningful change

What can I help with?

Whatever has brought you here today, the process of therapy can be transformative.  Whilst trauma, anxiety, and pregnancy/postnatal difficulties are my areas of special interest, I help clients with all manner of other problems as well.  These include but are not limited to: depression, self-esteem, miscarriage/abortion,  loss/bereavement, relationship/family issues, ADHD/neurodivergence, BPD, numbness and overwhelm.  If you cannot find on this list what you are looking for, please do get in touch - as your Counsellor, I will be alongside you every step of the way supporting you on your personal journey.  Please either send me an email with any questions or reach out for a free 15-minute initial phone call to explore how I can help you.  Alternatively, you can book in for a 50-minute no-obligation introductory session.

Where do I work?

I offer in-person regular therapy and EMDR sessions to adults (18+) in Central Bath and in BA2 (Kingsway area).  I also work online, offer walk-and-talk sessions, and have some limited availability for home visits.  I have a current clear DBS check.

How do I work?  What is my approach?

As a therapist, my approach is "humanistic-integrative" which essentially means that you are at the heart of our therapy relationship and that I will draw upon a number of counselling methods to tailor the therapy to you as an individual.  These include but are not limited to trauma-informed practice/EMDR therapy, attachment theory, psychodynamic and person-centred therapy, Gestalt, creative methods, and also some CBT. Since I regard you as truly unique, we work together to develop an approach that best meets your needs and which will enable you to access growth and healing, opening the door to resilience and meaningful change.

My style is open-hearted, warm, compassionate, and completely accepting of who you are.  I will make you feel seen and heard and, most importantly, we will build a relationship based on safety and trust.  Working with you, I will provide empathy, gentle challenge, alternative perspectives, and psychoeducation where appropriate so that you can begin to feel empowered.   You may simply want to talk or, if that feels difficult, we can explore creatively through art, dreams, or visualisations. If you have experienced trauma, we might gently explore how stress is held in the body using breath awareness and grounding techniques.

Training, qualifications & experience

With almost 30 years of experience in the helping professions as a therapist, EMDR practitioner, NHS Midwife, a Business Psychologist, and Coach/Mentor (including for the Prince's Trust), I feel I have seen life from many angles and can deeply empathise with the struggles and distress individuals can face.  Whilst I have a special interest in trauma/(C)PTSD, anxiety, life transitions, and pregnancy-related difficulties, I also have extensive experience working with clients who seek my help for a range of other problems.  These include but are not limited to depression, loss or bereavement, lack of self-esteem, relationship difficulties, brain injuries, ADHD, anger management, and BPD.   If you would like to know whether or not I can support you with your particular concerns, please send me an email.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Wheelchair user access
Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a Counsellor's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the Counsellor to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.

For some of my sessions I have access to a ground floor room but not for all, so I cannot unfortunately guarantee this for all enquiries. Most of my sessions are on the second floor of a building with no lift.
