About me

Sometimes we find ourselves repeating the same patterns in relationships, struggling with feelings we cannot fully understand, or feeling stuck despite our best efforts to change. Therapy can offer a space to slow down, think more deeply about what may be happening beneath the surface, and begin to understand ourselves differently.

I am a BACP Accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with over 10 years of clinical experience. I work primarily from a psychodynamic and relational perspective, exploring how past experiences, early relationships and unconscious patterns may continue to influence the way we feel, relate to others and respond to difficulties in the present.

My approach is thoughtful, collaborative and individual to each person. Rather than focusing only on symptoms, we can become curious about what lies beneath them and about patterns that may be understood intellectually but still feel difficult to change. Developing a deeper understanding of our emotional lives can create the possibility for meaningful and lasting change.

I offer individual psychotherapy and couples and relationship therapy, with face-to-face sessions in Bristol and Exeter, as well as online.

How I Can Help

People come to therapy for many different reasons. You may be experiencing anxiety or depression, struggling within relationships, living with the impact of trauma or loss, questioning aspects of your identity, or going through a period of change or uncertainty.

Sometimes the difficulty is harder to define. You may recognise recurring patterns in your relationships or ways of coping, or have a sense that something is not quite right without fully understanding why.

I offer a confidential and non-judgmental space where these experiences can be explored at your own pace. I am warm, open and down-to-earth in the way I work, while also offering a space in which we can think carefully together about experiences and feelings that may not always be easy to put into words

Area of Clinical Interest

I work with a broad range of emotional and relational difficulties, with particular clinical interests in:

Anxiety and depression
Relationship and attachment difficulties
Trauma and adverse life experiences
Grief, loss and significant life transitions
Self-esteem, identity and sense of self
Emotional regulation
Work-related stress and burnout
Intimacy, trust and recurring relationship patterns
Domestic abuse and the psychological impact of abusive relationships
Neurodiversity, including the emotional and relational experiences associated with ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence
I have particular experience working with people from international, intercultural and multicultural backgrounds, including individuals and couples navigating differences in culture, identity, family expectations and relationships.

Couple and Relationship Therapy

Alongside individual psychotherapy, I work with couples experiencing difficulties with communication, intimacy, trust, conflict, infidelity and significant transitions within their relationship.

My couples work is informed by specialist training with Tavistock Relationships in London. Rather than locating the difficulty solely within one partner, I help couples become curious about the patterns that develop between them and how each person's experiences, expectations and ways of relating may contribute to the relationship dynamic.

The aim is not to decide who is right or wrong, but to create a space in which both partners can develop a greater understanding of themselves, each other and their relationship.

Training, qualifications & experience

I hold an MSc in Psychological Therapies: Practice and Research, specialising in psychodynamic and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, and a BSc (Hons) in Psychology from the University of Exeter. My professional training also includes a Diploma in Counselling from Exeter College.

I have over 10 years of clinical experience across private practice, NHS psychotherapy services, university wellbeing services and third-sector organisations. My experience includes both shorter-term and longer-term psychotherapy with people experiencing a wide range of emotional, psychological and relational difficulties.

I have undertaken specialist training in couples counselling and psychotherapy with Tavistock Relationships in London.

I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and have been involved with the British Psychotherapy Foundation (BPF) as part of my continuing psychodynamic and psychoanalytic professional development.

I undertake regular clinical supervision and continuing professional development in accordance with my professional and ethical responsibilities.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
