About me
I'm a Couples and Relationship Therapist. I moved into specialising in relationships when I realised how key they are to our wellbeing and how a thriving relationship, enriches every area of our lives.
For most of us, there's very little guidance on how to navigate long-lasting relationships in a healthy, intimate and connected way. Many of us acquire a blueprint from our parents, friends, neighbours or the internet. We often assume relationships have a life of their own and then we're disappointed when they don't match up to our expectations.
You may have lost hope in your relationship or just be stuck. Perhaps you're unable to talk about your problems, or have forgotten why you're together. Maybe intimacy differences stand between you. Relationship issues often build slowly and painfully, or suddenly after a specific distressing event such as an affair. Anxiety around relationship issues can be exhausting.
Couples therapy offers a space to pause and reflect, to understand the patterns you may have slipped into. To let go of losing strategies and learn healthy relational skills. It's a place where you can take back your relationship as your own and make it what you both want.
Learning what would work for you both, what you're really longing for and what's keeping you stuck is what we'll do together.
Working with me will enable you to recognise difference as a gift rather than a problem, and to turn it into an opportunity for growth and greater intimacy.
Whatever your issue, relational or sexual, I will listen, ask questions and help you safely share with each other what is going on for you.
I work with couples who are dissatisfied, unhappy, in despair, stuck, in crisis or ready to quit. And with couples who just want to make their connection even better.
I believe every couple has the resources between them to co create what they are longing for and it’s my job to help you look within and find them.
I am naturally stubborn and I won’t quit until you do.
I also work with individuals who are interested in personal growth for the sake of their relationships too. When we've never had a strong sense of ourselves, or don't like ourselves very much, we often rob ourselves of the very thing we're longing for.
And sometimes, a partner doesn't want to engage in the process. It's still worth turning up alone for the sake of your relationship.
Training, qualifications & experience
I began with a Diploma in Clinical and Pastoral Counselling and a Certificate in Couples and Family Counselling.
Inspired by relationships, I decided to specialise and graduated in The Developmental Model of Couples Therapy Training under Ellyn Bader Ph.D. at The Couples Institute.
Understanding the importance of intimacy, I trained in Assessing and Treating Sexual Issues with Martha Kauppi at the Institute of Relational Intimacy
I'm an accredited member of both the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society and the National Council of Integrative Psychotherapists.
Prior to setting up in private practice in 2015, I spent 10 years working in a busy and challenging cross cultural practice abroad. Relationships have fascinated me more and more as I have navigated my own, and learned so much from the many people I have worked with.
Since I have a natural curiosity and am constantly inspired by my work with relationships, I take my professional development very seriously. I aim to increase my creativity and improve my practice through regular courses, reading and learning each year.
