About me

Counselling in Reading, Berkshire.

Online/Face2Face

I'm a qualified, registered integrative counsellor with a focus on healing trauma offering counselling or psychotherapy to adults, young adults (18+), and young people (14-17).

We all have the capacity to resolve our difficulties. Sometimes we just hit a wall and need to make sense of past or new challenges. Our vision can get clouded and we find ourselves a bit lost. Feeling lost, disconnected or numb can bring out parts of ourselves that try and manage these feelings. Often this can feel like anxiety, panic, depression, insomnia, isolation, anger, dissociation, and helplessness.

All of these difficulties can be worked through from a place of safety. Giving yourself the platform to find your way again can lead to a sense feeling more connected to yourself and others. Quite often, we already have the answers to our questions, we just need to give ourselves the space to listen.

Alongside my private practice, I work with a Charity in Reading supporting people of all ages who've experienced & have been impacted by sexual trauma. This work is close to me and I deeply respect the strength I see in others when navigating the struggles that come with being hurt by someone close.

Because of my experience, I can work with a diverse range of people from all walks of life. It's important for me to see you as a whole person with your own unique experiences/journey.

Training, qualifications & experience

I’m a qualified counsellor (Dip.TC) and registered Member of BACP. Formally trained as an Integrative Counsellor. I currently work for a Charity in Reading supporting young people (13-20) and adults who’ve been impacted by sexual abuse and rape.

I trained as a listening volunteer with Samaritans and worked with them for 2 years answering calls.

Before I embarked on my career as a counsellor, I worked in schools for a few years at a secondary school supporting children and young people with educational needs. I then began training as a teacher and gained work experience with primary school aged children.

I lived and worked in another country for 8 years and experienced working as a bilingual teacher at a private school.

Degree: BA (Hons) Law with Spanish (2003) – the path not taken.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

I like to work in collaboration with clients to ensure they get good value out of their time and money invested. Counselling is an opportunity to work through our difficulties that can often feel like we're stuck. It's also a great way to develop ourselves and open up new possibilities. I regularly review with my clients to ensure they are on the path they want to be on in sessions and encourage a self-governing dynamic.
