About me

Hello and a warm welcome. I provide a safe, non-judgmental and confidential space for adults and adolescents to explore their feelings and difficult experiences, recognise and change unhealthy behaviours and thought patterns and grow in self-confidence. I am a qualified integrative child and adolescent counsellor with a post graduate diploma from Place2Be (level 7) and I am furthering my training currently at Metanoia Institute where I am a trainee counsellor working with adults. I work in private practice at The Awareness Centre in Clapham, and can help with anxiety, depression, self-esteem, relationship and peer difficulties, family conflict, shame, anger and loss. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and have met their standards of proficiency for private work and I practise within their ethical framework. I have professional indemnity insurance in place.

My integrative practice means that I draw on a variety of ways of working including psychodynamic theory, attachment theory, person centred theory, transactional analysis and Gestalt theory.

Building a safe and helpful therapeutic relationship has been central to my work and I have found that when a person feels understood, seen and heard they are better able to understand themselves and therefore grow in self awareness, self worth and create positive change. This can often involve inner child work, an understanding of life scripts, negative core beliefs, unmet emotional needs and thought patterns and behaviours that might be holding clients back. I have an interest in working with parts of self and have personally done this myself. With curiosity, compassion and empathy I can help clients explore their feelings and difficult experiences, recognise and change unhealthy behaviours and build tools to help themselves through difficult times.

I believe that every individual whoever they are has the capacity to heal and that each individual knows what they need when given the right environment to take risks and be honest. I am able to cater for different needs and wants and can adapt my work to meet the needs of each client.

Training, qualifications & experience

My experience

I have worked as a counsellor for Place2Be in primary and secondary schools and currently work in a counselling centre in North London amongst a team of therapists and supervisors where I have been for three years. I am currently  working with adults there. I have my own private practice where I see adults and adolescents.

I am warm, approachable and dedicated to supporting clients to reach their potential. I have worked with young people and their families for nearly 20 years, now as an experienced counsellor and before that as a teacher and special educational needs coordinator. After years as a child and adolescent counsellor (fully qualified post graduate diploma form Place2Be) and going through my own therapy journey I am now undertaking more training at Metanoia Institute and am a trainee working with adults.  I have had extensive experience of working with children and their families as a counsellor and also working in an alternative provision school supporting young people and their families who have been excluded from mainstream schools and who suffer with social, emotional and mental health difficulties. I am able to help with - among other things -  issues such as anxiety, depression, self esteem, relationship and peer difficulties, school issues, family conflict, behavioural issues, stress, anger and angry outbursts and shame.

I have worked hard on my self awareness and worked with my own therapist and within group therapy to heal wounded parts of myself and in turn understand myself and my relationships and boundaries better. This gives me insight, empathy and understanding of the problems that come in to the therapy room and I am able to stand alongside the people I work with with care and understanding and provide a judgement free supportive space for clients to explore all types of thoughts and emotions.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
