About me

Do you need some help? The word 'help' means different things for everyone, as we are all unique. What might help one person definitely doesn’t help another person, and could even mean a step backwards, which we don’t want. I want to take a moment to say that counselling is different to any other interaction with friends, family and others.

It is help, in a new way.

Counselling isn’t about telling you what to do, or giving advice or suggestions. I work in a Person-Centred way, which I love as a therapy. Person-Centred Counselling is about understanding that you already have the resources within you, we just need to work together to make some space to work out what’s keeping you from being where you want to be.

This is why it is so important and empowering for the help to come from within you.

After all, no one knows you more than you.

You just might have lost yourself a little, or forgotten who you are, or you might never have truly known and instead always been told by others, and want to take the time now to meet you.

We can work to help with feelings of sadness, depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, low mood and anything else that is troubling you. If you have been having suicidal thoughts, bring them to me and we can talk about them in a safe environment.

Counselling can help in this process; where you are free to bring whatever you need or want to bring to sessions. It’s not my decision where we start, you decide at your own pace, depending on where you feel able to, and I am here to listen; to help see things from where you are.

I'm a great listener, and your story matters.

I have a particular interest in trauma, dissociation, stress and PTSD. I believe that the mind and body work as one to show us when they need attention or change.

What happens in our first session?

I will not just expect you to jump in and open up. The first session is different to any subsequent sessions in that I will talk first (usually in sessions you will have the majority of the session to talk). I will make sure that we set up a safe working space for us both, taking the time to talk through important factors such as confidentiality and cancellations and giving you the opportunity to ask any questions you might have about the process.

With any time that we have remaining in the session, I will invite you to share what you feel comfortable sharing, depending on how much time is left.

Where do you work?

I currently work online, via Google Meet, or face to face at Victoria Therapy Centre in Saltaire, BD18:

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
