About me

Fairness and Equality are close to my heart and underpin my core personal beliefs and professional practice. As a Couples Counsellor, I work impartially and professionally with you both, ensuring you feel equally heard and validated. Checking and responding to your feelings throughout the process creates an equal platform for you both and builds trust, openness and transparency throughout the process.

I also work with individuals to explore relationship difficulties.  I work collaboratively with you to create a safe environment for you to explore needs, uncertainties and fears. It may be that you're feeling unfulfilled within your relationship, confused, fearful of being on your own or afraid of change and its impact on others.

I have a Post Graduate Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, I've worked and trained as a Couples Counsellor within Relate, I've also studies the  Certificate in Psychosexual Studies at Tavistock Relationships London and I'm a trained Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist.

Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is a scientifically proven approach of resolving relationship conflict. Studies show that 70-75% of couples working with an EFT Therapist move from relationship distress to recovery during the course of their therapy and approximately 90% show significant improvement.

I have counselling rooms available in York and Leeds, I also offer Counselling online via Zoom.

I do try to be flexible around client availability.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me.

Work Experience

Prior to setting up in Private Counselling, I worked and trained as a Couples Counsellor at Relate Mid-Yorkshire.

My initial Counselling qualifications lead me to work within general counselling. Receiving referrals from GPs and IAPT Services, general counselling lead me to work with individuals experiencing depression, low self-esteem, bereavement, trauma, abuse, anger and anxiety.

I've counselled clients at BRAVE (Bradford Reducing Anger and Violent Emotions). I have worked at Behind Closed Doors in Leeds, providing emotional and practical support for survivors of Domestic Abuse.  Both roles provided an insight into the complexity of Attachment needs and lead me to specialise in Couples Counselling.

My work within Mental Health includes working for Together Pathways in collaboration with North Yorkshire Police.  The role enabled me to engage with clients experiencing mental distress who repeatedly make contact with emergency services or who are at risk of entering the criminal justice system.

Through my work I have gained a deep respect and greater understanding of individuals experiencing mental health difficulties.  This understanding proves invaluable to my counselling work.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
