What is Counselling?                                                   img1423667756.jpeg

Counselling provides a safe and supportive environment in which to talk through your thoughts and problems and reflect on past and present events with a knowledgeable, non-judgemental professional. It gives you a confidential place to express your feelings. It encourages us to take a look at our thoughts, feelings and behaviours that may be preventing us from moving forward. It helps us to find ways of changing these overwhelming emotions in a way that will take us to a safer and more secure place. It can often provide an environment to understand and learn about ourselves so that we can take control of and responsibility for our lives.

How I work

As a counsellor I will listen and help you explore and make sense of your current feelings, thoughts and behaviour, we may identify patterns that have their roots in your past experiences. As counselling progresses you may gain insights and we will work together to find more helpful ways of coping with your problems and feelings.

Coming to counselling can often be seen as a journey and sometimes the first step is the hardest step. However every journey starts with one step and maybe you have taken that first step today by looking at my profile.

Please call or e-mail me to discuss how I can help you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I undertook a five year training programme to become an Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist and Couples Counsellor.

I have worked in education for 15 years and in primary care.

As well as my private practice I work with the NHS.

Therapies Offered:

Psychodynamic

CBT

Emotional Freedom Technique (Energy Psychotherapy)

Psychodynamic therapy offers an opportunity to talk through your concerns and difficulties with a trained therapist in confidence and at your own pace. It works from the belief that experiences in the past unconsciously affect how we feel and behave in the present. I will also incorporate Mindfulness into my work.

EFT - emotions can become stuck in our bodies, EFT can help to release them,

CBT links our thought patterns to our behaviour and feelings.

I have continued to learn and experience and update my way of working as a Counsellor and I adapt different approaches, when appropriate, to the needs of my clients, seeing that everyone and their needs are different.

Member Organisations:

As a full member of British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists (BACP) I adhere to their ethical framework.

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
